I'm looking at replacing a couple OLD 10/100 switches. They are each at a IDF location in the network. For smaller networks, I typically just use a Cisco SG300 and just figure out how many ports they need.

Any reasons to look at something better here? I was looking at the HP 2530-24G for example.

All I need is the basics, VLANs, etc.

So, just go with a SG300 or is it worth spending more to get the HP2530? Or, if there is something within the price range of those two I'm open to suggestions.

It's really a matter of preference. Personally, I would stay with the Cisco SG300 as their products are usually rock solid. I've never had any issues with their support and they keep up with the IOS/firmware fixes/upgrades. If you run an all Cisco environment, these switches are feature rich with various capabilities such as CDP, STP, etc. that can make managing your network easier. I prefer using CLI but the GUI is relatively easy to use.
