Which Gaming 5.1 Headset?

So I recently purchased the Psyko gaming headset.. well sad to say that they are horrible. It sounds like your in a tunnel with all the audio. I can't stand the quality and the sound leakage is horrible.

I'm wondering what headset I should get after I return these.. I've looked at the Tritton A720, which seem good but I'd really love the Astro A40 w/ Mix Box but too much money right now.

Anyone have a good suggestion on a good headset?

I mostly want these for gaming.. music I'll play from my desktop speakers.
 
If you want wireless: Logitech G930 nothing right now beats it.

If you want wired: Corsair HS1A - This is the analog version so you need on-board or a sound card. If you want USB sound the Corsair HS1 is a good choice. I've heard there are some problems with the mic though. There is also the Logitech G35 which is just a lesser version of the G930. I have the G930 and I love the wireless portion but I wish it was a little more comfortable and some how had some way to cool my ears, they get pretty hot after a few hours!

I have a feeling most people here will tell you to get music headphones and a clip-on mic though.
 
Well I bought the Tritton AX750.. the only downside is I don't know how to properly set them up.. I have them connected from the box with optical to my X-FI Soundcard.
 
ROCCAT KAVE are excellent 5.1 sound clean and have a replica denon ahd2000 earpad and I used to think my last pair of headphones were comfortable and now they feel like trash when compared to these.

Arctic Cooling P531 is USB but true 5.1 and I might buy a pair if they ever go for a price I cant pass up. I'm not quite sure how these would sound with my xfi either.

Do not buy trittons they feel cheap like a toy and made so that a xbox mic gets plugged in to it, just stay away from xbox 5.1 headsets.

Not if the sound card supports Dolby Digital Live.

As of right now, get either the Roccat Kave or the Turtle Beach HPA2, they are the ones to beat.

Indeed the "get music headphones and use dolby headphone/cmss3d" brigade is on its way, don't listen to them, they're mostly clueless.
 
They aren't 5.1, they are stereo. All the 5.1 is done at the sound card level, but the headphones on its own are stereo.
 
DD live is not as good as stereo plus Cmss or just plain stereo. Get whatever you want. Just buy something sturdy. Gaming headphones take a lot of abuse. I would just get a Koss SB40 and call it a day. There is a reason why there are only 4 left on Amazon. I have been recommending them for years. The mic sucks but get a clip on and call it a day. Their directional sound for gaming is as good as or 98% as good as any 5.1 headset. Save your $$ in this case.

Why not look into getting some real headphones? Then using the dolby headphone or Cmss (THX TruStudio Pro) on your sound card to do the same/better 3d emulation?

Headset - $115 Audio Technica ATH-AD700
Dolby Headphone Sound Card - $20 ASUS XONAR_DG

CMSS (THX TruStudio Pro) Sound Card - $95-180 Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD PCI Express x1 or USB version. You could get an older X-Fi card, but you need to tweak them a bit to work with Windows 7.

Gamer headphones are sold to n00bs, are made with cheap components therefor more prone to breaking easier.

If you need gamer headphones I have heard good things about the Turtle Beach HPA2. They seem to do good surround sound emulation, but lack in some of the finer details in sound clarity.

Not noobs. People who have not yet heard a good pair of headphones. If you have, these headsets are like the difference b/w a clock radio and a movie theater.

That is why, the Koss Sb40 is the only gaming headset I would bother with. It is cheap, tough and sounds ok for headphones. After that, I would go for non-headset headphones. Most "gaming audio" products are overpriced for what you get.
