Which (future) 24" LCD can do it all?

Well, since it's been confirmed that neither the current 24-inch offering from BenQ nor their forthcoming "Z" model will support 1:1 pixel mapping or scaling which preserves the aspect ratio of the source signal, does any manufacturer have a product available now or in the works that is truly versatile and somewhat futureproof?

  • 24-inch widescreen display, 1920 x 1280 native resolution
  • HDMI input OR HDCP support over DVI
  • Component input
  • Composite input
  • S-video input
  • DVI input
  • Option to disable scaling (or at least preserve aspect ratio)
  • Reasonable input lag and response time
  • Reasonable quality (no obvious color banding, etc)

I know NEC has a new 24 S-IPS coming soon...I don't know any further details about it but it could be promising.

there's the forthcoming NEC 2490 and LG L245WP which look interesting. More advanced info here :)

I would add the ability to disable overdrive from the menu (or service menu) to that list. A lot of panels look noisy when displaying moving images (especially video) because of the over-aggressive overdrive.

bah i cant wait for these things to come out. i need a new monitor already, this 5 year old crt is still good (19in trinitron), but definitely in need of a second one... any news as to release dates (i know LG is supposedly nov. 20, but has anything been confirmed?)

All of the NEC 90 series monitors have the overdrive on/off option in the OSM. this includes the 2490 and 2690.

Is the Dell 27" rumored earlier this year happening, or was it just a rumor?

The 37" Westi can do a lot of those things and its 37"

Off topic, but I just bought the Sony Bravia 46inch 1080p LCD. So much better than the Westy I used to have. And, ouch, so so so much more expensive.

But to the OP it has all the qualities you are looking for, except for the DVI input. It has 2 HDMI inputs and DVI to HDMI adapters are so cheap. However there may be the added expense of the Sony itself . . .

Except for one part... it's nowhere near 24"!

24" is already pushing it for normal desktop use, IMO.. The larger monitors have their uses, and can really be awesome for some uses, but some people need "normal" desktop monitors.

The Bravia really is the sweetest LCD monitor I've seen though. Amazing blacks and contrast for an LCD.

Will the NEC LCD2690 have HDCP? Since it has 2 DVI ports, I plan to use the second port to hook up to a HDTV STB.
