Hiho,

currently I am running the ghetto mod "women's stockings" fan filter on my radiator. I am considering to get some nice fan filters and wanted oppinions:

what do you guys think? this is going on my Apex' radiator, which is mounted outside (I have two cats, hence I need to filter otherwise I am cleaning my fans on a weekly basis). Anyone have experience mounting either of these with a radbox?
 
i have the aluminum ones and they are great and ez to clean... not sure about the mesh type tho..
 
A thing you have to remember though, is that the filters do reduce airflow into and out of your case and raise temperatures a little bit, but with all that built up dust on the inside instead, that could not just heat up your computer but cause other problems as well, its kinda a catch 22.
 
Yeah, like the aluminum ones as well. Might want to go check out Ben's Bargains, and do a search for Nexfan. Saw a deal at Ben's yesterday, think it was $2 each for 80 or 120mm aluminum fan filters, with flat rate $4 shipping for your entire order. Might be cheaper than svc, from an online retailer I've come to trust. :)

Works well, but lets the fine crap in. I just use a leafblower to do some "dusting" every month or so...
 
Most effective combination of effective filtering with very low restriction seems to be the 'pleated' filters used as furnace and air conditioner filters. They have an 'accordian'-folded pattern, which provides increased surface area.

They're over-sized and priced at about $3. You'll have to cut a section to fit your case intake.

Thickness (since it's folded) is about 1", not likely to fit in a standard case filter-holder. My filter is taped inside the case.

In my use, the media allows no discernable dust and no measurable air-restriction. Same case temperatures with this media as with no filter at all.

Dude, just get a bunch of those dryer sheets. Used ones are better, and you can spray paint them whatever color you want by hanging them from the clothesline in the backyard.
