I can get an e6600 for 220+ shipping NIB, with a stepping that is the guy bought 2, and they have identical stepping and week, the one he's using hits 3.6ghz @ 1.48V.

Or should I take my chances and buy a new retail one from newegg? The latest batches apparently have been very on and off with oc.

Yeah, take the tried and true. I'll trade you my new one that I have opened yet for it. :p

At 1.48 volts almost any E6600 should be able to hit that number. I'd also suggest water cooling with that much voltage.

You also might want to ask which board he used and how he got there, using dividers makes overclocking pretty easy but doesn't always mean a faster machine.

You also said "retail" at the egg so I can only assume the one you are looking at is OEM, or you at least are implying that. Keep in mind what ever warrantee you get is only as good as the dealer with OEM.

Just a few thoughts to keep in mind

Luck;)

I ended up buying the one from the guy, he's a member on XS, it's a retail one from the new batches. I decided to get that rather than risk the numerous not so great steppings and weeks people seem to be getting on XS.
