So I'm looking to get a dremel to mod my p180. Basically, I just want to cut out some holes and make it more wire-friendly, like the p182.

Which dremel set should I get? I know nothing of rotational speeds/power/etc. I just want one that will saw through the metal interior of the p180 and be able to handle jobs of that caliber, as well as to other work (maybe wood and softer materials, etc).

Can anyone recommend a good set that would make a good christmas gift for myself?

The attachments you get are more important than the particular model. I have had mine for 6-7 years so its one of the older models. The equal today would be a 200 series for high and low speeds. The key is the right kind of cutting wheels [reinforced] for metal and then the proper attachment to smooth down and round the edges.
 
Thats fine. Not sure if that's a decent price or not. Hopefully you live in a town where they have Lowe's or HomeDepot or even Walmart all sell the cutoff wheels. The Reinforced ones last longer. The Heavy Duty are not so heavy duty. I nearly went thru a 20 pack of those once just cutting a window hole in a metal side panel. There are also carbide and other tips for cutting. Your kit has some of it but maybe not the speciality ones.
 
Unfortunately, I live in Taiwan. I'm going to look around and see if they sell them anywhere here, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'll probably order it online or have my brother-in-law go shopping for me.
 
Taiwan probably sells them somewhere, there's enough of a casemodder community there I'm sure someone has it. If not yes have your bro-in-law send you some. If shipping from afar tell him to get and send plenty. Like 3-4 packs so you don't run out 4/5th's of the way through your project. I don't mean to imply you'll need that many just to cut 2 holes you won't but its good to have a extra supply
 
I use a dewalt cut off for all my cutting and smoothing/grinding down... dremels are lighter but who really uses the slower speeds anyway lol ? :)
 
I would suggest the quick change cutting wheels, trust me you will be happy that you did.

I have the Lith-ion wireless model and its a must to have two batteries, but I love not having a cord.
 
IMO, Dremels are great for small, light duty, fine work. If you plan on doing that and more I would recommend that you also take a look at a Rotozip model - like a Rotozip RZ20, etc. Something like that gives you the flexibility of doing much heavier duty cutting, etc. With their flex shaft attachment [would be an additional cost], you can use the Dremel bits to still do fine / small work as well.

If the Rotozips interest you, then definitely consider buying them from Amazon.com, as they offer a great / cheap price on the base unit itself [far lower in cost than your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc.].

Personally, I started off with a Dremel, and then realized that it could not handle larger / heavier duty cutting that I wanted to do around the house. So I now have a Rotozip RZ25 that works much better for my needs - which are more than just modding cases though... Just something to consider...
