I have downloaded Ubuuntu--Kubuntu--Xandros--Mepix and Knoppix recently. I just ordered a 320 Gig seagate harddrive IDE. I want to dual boot XP and Linux. I currently have a 160 gig drive with a 20 gig windows partitions. I do play games thats reason for the dual boot.

Before everyone comes in and tells you whats best, just try a bunch and see what you prefer. I like Gentoo, others like Debian, some like slackware, suse, etc. They all have strengths and weaknesses. Just do some research and see what you prefer.

Agreed. I hate it when people just pop off and say "just use ubuntu"

Spend a few days and check out at least the top ten.

If you look at the right side of the screen you'll see a listing of most popular distro's. Try out at least the top ten.

+1. No matter what anyone tells you, it wont help until you actually start installing them and trying them out.

Try Fedora Core. I think its a nice distro for dual boot. Loads much faster than ubuntu with out any modifications.

Have you used Linux before?

Ubuntu isn't bad, but Frugalware will be easier to set up. For example, it comes with most of the media related codecs preinstalled. With Ubuntu, you would have to edit your repositories and download all those codecs manually. The video card drivers are in the standard repositories, so again, no editing config files. For someone new to Linux, this is a big plus. Almost everything you need is preinstalled, but not to the point that it feels bloated. Plus, Frugalware's the fastest binary distribution.

There are a few distro's I won't even consider installing. Like Ubuntu Kubuntu and Linspire I tried the Live cd and they won't even detect my mouse. In fact it goes so far as to disable the port completely I have to replug the cord in to get it to work on boot. looking for an ISO of Frugalware to download.

^^
try another burn, this time slower. I've never heard of port disabling with a proper, uncorrupted Kubuntu/Ubuntu/Xubuntu iso.

Lol there I go again. If there's one thread sure to repeat it's the ole 'which distro?' post.
