Which display should I get for gaming?

Ok I'm looking to buy a monitor for gaming and browsing the net. I was hoping on an IPS, if that's best, with a minimum size of 24" and minimum pixel resolution of 1920x1200. I will be running it on two GTX EVGA 580s in SLI. I play a variety of different games, ranging from FPS to RPG.

I was considering either the U2410 or the U2711, but someone on another forum told me to get neither as they both lack the A-TW polarizer and told me to look for one of those monitors instead and look at the Eizo line as the A-TW polarizer makes a massive difference. However apparently those types of monitors are no longer in production, so I don't know how I can go about getting one, nor do I know of any specific models which have it.

Which monitor would people on here insist that I go for? Is the U2410 good enough or should I be looking for something better? Also, should I be going with an IPS or TN panel? I think I would personally prefer an IPS myself unless other people who are more experienced know better.

You'll get like a billion answers to this question. Here's mine: if you have $1200 to spend, get a ZR30w. No vices, fast, low lag, bright, unbeatable color accuracy/saturation, and super high rez. The only downsides are those that are germane to IPS (some white glow at high angles, decent contrast but not spectacular). If someone tells you it has ghosting or is laggy, call them out on it.

TN panels have abhorrent color accuracy and saturation (all of them, they are just arguing over who's worst) and poor viewing angles. Some will say they can see a difference in response time with TN, I cannot.

Good luck,

It's a bit like saying you have $30,000 to spend and want the best car. The best is different for everyone - some people like raw performance, some like the comfort and luxury, some need extra room or styling and some just care about gas mileage.

When I went from a CRT to an LCD (which was not very long ago), I went through a few LCDs before I got the one I have now. The color shift really bothered me but after a day or so, I didn't notice it. The first LCD I got (HP 2509) was incredibly ghosty and smeary and I hated it so bad I almost gave up. Then I tried the LG W2753V and found that at least there was no ghosting.

I can't stand the ghosting on IPS (at least the ones I have seen) and some people don't believe it exists at all. Whatever you do, try buying from a place you can easily return to.

Well I myself would like something something which looks great and would make you go "wow" when you look at all the colours, definition and textures on the screen. Just another question, I am primarily going to be using this for PC games and browsing the net, but is it possible to also connect these monitors to first and second gens consoles (i.e. PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox etc)? Or is it only a few of them that have that capability?

If you do mostly gaming, an ips monitor will not make you happy.

I am happy with the iH282 TN panel I have been using about 7 months now, but I also took the third one they had in the store because I made them test for dead pixels. The first two had a single bad pixel that you could only see with a purple background.

If you do mostly web/work, then get an IPS panel. Most IPS panels I have seen, and I have two, are great for picture quality but suck for gaming.

A 120 Hz monitor may be what you want...you are prepped already for 3D so might as well give it a shot.
