Thanks but Im not going to spend any more $$. Its between these 2 cpus only because I paid under 100$ for the 6100 with discount code. I have seen shots of the 965 at 4.7, 4.8 posted here and there but not much recent stuff is why I am interested.

the phenoms run into a wall @ 4.2-4.3 ish, a lot don't hit 4.

there is no way you are going to hit 4.5.

if you have to get another 6100, but the x4 at like 3.9 would probably outperform it @ 4.5 or come close. I would temper your goal, or bite the bullet and spend a little more on a 6300 if you absolutely have to have the performance.

Would you happen to know of any links that bench the 965 against the 6100 or simply put them head to head?

All I am finding are forum posts or specification overviews etc.. I have read that the 965 out performs the 6100 by a few people is why I am even going about this.

My guess is an overclocked 965 will be faster in Skyrim cities than an overclocked 6100. An OCed 6100 should be faster in BF3 multiplayer and apps like WinRAR Beta 2. The 965 has better IPC.

I'd get an 8320 or a 6300. I own an FX 6300 and run it @ 4.6GHz 1.4v on air 24/7. I'm satisfied with it.

You're not going to get that clock speed unless you've got an incredible motherboard and some LN2 lying around.

The Denebs hit a ceiling around 3.8ghz-4ghz, where any higher and they require an obscene amount of voltage. You should be able to get 3.8ghz on that 965, but there's absolutely no way you're going to hit mid 4ghz.

The 6100 has lower IPC but I'd pick it just for the AVX an AES. You should be able to clock it to 4.6-4.7ghz under water for 24/7 usage.

Yeah my old 965 BE was stuck at 3.9 GHz and this was under water. Anything more and it wasn't stable no matter how much voltage I threw at it. The new 3570k I got is stable at stock voltage at 4.4GHz, also chilling under water. Go Fx 6100, RMA and try your luck again, be more careful with your settings as you OC.

I was attempting to max out the 6100 and it died after reaching 4.8. It was only @ 56c load. (bad chip imo)

Today is the day I decide, so I guess I will just RMA it, I wish some of those who voted 965 would have put their .02$ in.
