Which CPU is faster?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop and my neighbor just gave me his old motherboard and cpu from his desktop. It's a P4, would it be faster than the Celeron that came with the laptop?

Without saying anything about compatibility (someone else will fill in that particular gap), the P4 should basically trounce the Celeron, in speed, heat-output, and power-savings.

I agree on the speed(cache) , but wont the P4 use more power and generate more heat?
