hi there
i have two systems here, and will like to know which will be best for rendering purposes, the program in use is mostly Maya

one system is an amd one

Asus A7N8X Deluxe
athlon Xp 2400+
1 gig of ram (2x512) of kingston hyper XPC2700
80 gb WD SE

second is an P4
P4 2.4C
Asus P4P800
1 gig of ram of kingston hyper XPC2700 <-- actually is 512 mb of ram but if p4 is best for rendering i will give him 1 512 mb of ram from the amd machine

80 Gb WD SE

the operating system in both machines is Windows Xp professional

i plan to give the best one for rendering purposes to bro since he is the one rendering,

thanks

The Pentium 4 works better for 3D rendering because of memory bandwidth and the like (if you have dual channel, even better). I think Hyperthreading might also further increase its strength in rendering, but not sure. I haven't used a 3D app since on my older 1.3 comp.

intersting, i thought the same thing, but you know a person has always his doubts

thanks for the reply btw

Rendering wise, the P4 will beat the AXPs. IMO, the A64s are better than the P4s but the AXPs arnt as quick as Intel.

With Intel, I would HIGHLY suggest Pc3200. It doesnt really matter much for AMD. I dont know this for sure, but I don't think Intels will accept Pc2700 when set to 200mhz (800mhz) FSB. Can anyone here correct me on this?

Athlon 64 costs the same as the intel setup so why not compare to it..beats just about anything in rendering anyways.

Then put in one DDR400 512mb stick and add a second later so you can have dual channel 3200 ram. You want 3200 RAM.

From what people are saying, sounds like the Intel computer will win... but why don't you throw some of the same rendering projects at Maya on each computer and see which one does a better job?

i'm gonna borrow my friends A64 3200+ rig in a few days for rendering purposes, i'll post back here about render times...
