I've read a lot of posts about weather a controller is better than onboard, but only a couple on which controller is better.
Basically I understand that 3Ware makes the best controller cards, but they seem really expensive to me.
I was hoping to maybe get away with the Highpoint I found on newegg for $68, but it seems that might not be the best idea.
I need a 4 port sata controller card for a raid 0+1 setup with 4 Seagate 200GB sata drives.
I would really like to stay under $150.
But if it really is going to be worth it, meaning I'll notice a spped increase or it's basically guaranteed not to fail for a lot longer than most cards, I'll consider spending more.
However, $300 for a 3Ware card just seems like too much.
Not that I can't afford it, I did just spend ~$3K on my new system (see sig), but I would need a really good reason to do so.
If there's not much of a problem with Highpoint or Promise, please let me know.
And does anyone know why Highpoint and SIIG are the only fairly cheap (<$120) cards on PriceWatch?

Thanks
