Which Cherry MX switch?

I ordered the sampler kit from Max Keyboards for $5.00. It came with a brown, red, black, and blue switches and (4)keycaps. They also provided (4) 50A O-Rings.

I am glad I got the sampler. It did identify for me that I do not like the blues. Sadly, even after having this I still cannot make my mind up between browns and reds even though they are very different switches.
My son has a brown switch keyboard I have been trying out. It does not feel exactly like but does feel somewhat like the sidewinder X6 I use regularly. Besides the feeling difference between the rubber domes and the browns I also notice my sons keyboard has taller key caps which also changes the feel. It is definitely louder, a feature he loves because it annoys his friends on skype but a feature I don't care for. I really need to find a red switch keyboard to try as having just the one key to play with is not enough.

My question is why would anyone want to go looking for the "gritty" feeling some describe with mx switches until broken in (assuming I'm understanding it correctly).

For my part i have been blissfully unaware of any such issues for 2mos or so now and am not really seeing the WIN in going looking for it... but meh that is just me.

I didn't notice any such effect with my rosewill MX-Red keyboard either...

meh...

Someone made a comment, someone else argued against, I argued for and offered a way to experience it. That's about it.

fair enough... I still can't notice anything like that... and for my part that is fine with me..I have enough to worry about already without going looking for things here. :D

not saying it isn't real or that some don't experience I can't detect it here and i'm inclined to leave it be i guess.

It's really not an issue to be concerned with; some claim "vintage" Cherry MX switches were made out of different materials and don't show these properties, but it's so hard to tell what the cause really is. "Vintage" switches do have a larger "CHERRY" logo printed on them and do feel smoother than modern switches with the smaller logo (at least that's the claim), the spring rate is also different.

I'd like to get my hands on some vintage Blacks myself; said to be lighter than normal Blacks and heavier than Reds, but also much smoother.

It's possible that Cherry Corp. changed their materials formula, but that had to have happened before they were bought out by ZF Friedrichshafen, since modern switches seem to have appeared in the early~mid '90s and the buyout didn't happen 'tilll '08.
