So, turns out I'm in the market for a new case. I'm looking for 120mm fans and good airflow in an all-around solid case. So far, this is what I've been looking at:

1. Gigabyte 3D Aurora

2. Lian-Li PC-7B

3. Thermaltake Tsunami

As of now, I'm leaning towards the Lian-Li because it looks like it has the best airflow, and is a mid-tower, but the double 120mm exhausts in the Aurora look nice! If you guys own any of these cases, please tell us what you like and don't like about it. Feel free to suggest other cases as well. Thanks for any help.

Lian Li PC-V1200. Probably the best case ever. The Lian Li PC-V600 is my personal favorite case.

The 7B is one of Lian Li's cheaper case's, I dont like it much. A bit flimsy compared to the V series.

Stay away from thermaltake.... Why? I dont like the brand, and many people on this forum share the same opinion.
 
i vote for the gigabyte. 2 120mm exhaust is alot of air. the ones that it comes with are pretty cool and quiet already
 
Myself I would go for the Gigabyte, just because I've never owned a full size and would love to have one as a test rig becaue switching parts and adding things would be a breeze. As far as a good all around case goes though for your main rig I would go with the lian li. I have never owned one but have heard wonderful things about them and I might pick one up myself,
 
The only thing that's turning me off the Gigabyte is the position of the 3.5" drive cage... it looks like a serious airflow killer.

hey i got that case for my g/f its very nice, Has 2 120 mm fans and 1 80 mm, Very solid nice case
 
I currently own a TT Tsunami, and while it hasnt been a bad case, I would go a different route next time. The air flow is decent on the Tsunami, but I have wanted to add a fan controller since getting the case and the damn aluminum door has limited my choices. I think if i could do it again i would go with Lian Li PC-V2000plusII/PC-V2000BplusII

IMO That case just looks so damn good, an cooling and space seem to be more than adequate for my needs. Definatley a nice case if you can afford it! :D
 
I have a Lian-Li PC V-1000 Plus II. I love it madly. All the V series cases are very nice, if you get one you won't be disappointed.

I am yet to read anything negative towards the V series, Its a shame I have only had the Tsunami a couple of months, its not worth the upgrade now, but soon. Im already excited :D
 
The Gigabyte seems like a very nice case. Along with the Lian-Li. The Tsunami takes my vote however, mostly on the looks factor.
 
The Lian-Li is the only one I would even begin to consider, the other two have windows are that just makes for too much case flex and not worth the trouble, plus it looks tacky.

I still stand by the Chieftech Dragon as one of the best designed, most accessible, and most appealing cases of all time however.

Just my opinion, but I can't stand the look of the dragon. Way to blah for me. It's excesively huge. I am definetly not a fan. Again just my opinion.
 
I almost got a PC-7 a month ago, in the end I went with a PC-G50 because it was smaller. even the flimsier, cheaper lian-li cases are damn good, however, the G50 drew hardly any air over the processor even with a blowhole fan installed, in the end I had to make a bracket to hold a fan to stimulate some airflow in the region, there were some other stupid flaws (powerbutton and led wires being routed to the wrong end of the case)
but it's nothing that a modder can't fix. sorry if that was off topic but it's all the input I can give regarding a cheap lian-li case.
 
Just got the Antec P180 and I'm very impressed. Very solid build, only $130 shipped, comes with 3x120mm adjustable fans and has space for 1 more.

Ordered on Sunday, received today (Tuesday). Chiefvalue is Newegg's alter ego if you didn't know.

I also really like the Antec Solution SLK1650 series. You get a solid case with a decent PSU for small bucks (I have 2). Antec Lifestyles Sonata II is also nice and comes with a better PSU.
 
It's a shame the P180's don't have a window option, otherwise I might spring for one of those. By the way, while the V1000/V2000 Lian-Li's seem very nice, I'd like to keep the cost of this case under $150. Does anyone know if I can get one of the original stackers with a window?
 
DO he Lian-Li. You will not be dissappointed.

Much better craftmanship than the others. Reputation to maintain.
 
The gigabyte looks good functionally, but I don't really like the look.

The lian-li 65b vibrates a whole lot. The 120mm fans should help that a lot with the 7b, but just be aware that if you want a quiet computer than you have to pick your lian-li's carefully.

The tsunami is the only thermaltake I would ever get. I have not used it personally, so I cannot say if it's a quality case or not.

If it were my choice I would go with the 7b, especially if noise is not a big issue for you. I think the 120mm fans will be fine. If the visual appeal of the gigabyte case is your thing, then I would also seriously consider that one. It looks pretty sturdy and you gotta love the 2x120mm exhaust. :)

I would go for the Gigabyte, but the sideways 3.5" rack looks like it would murder the airflow. By the way, what are the virtues of positive pressure cooling as opposed to negative pressure cooling (the Gigabyte)?
 
i have the gigabyte, and the drive cage does hamper intake. but i upgraded that fan to a 2400rpm and also the 2 exhaust fans to 2400rpm. the stock fans spun at about 800rpm. quiet, but not moving much air. i also put a suckhole in the window (case with mesh side panel probably better for airflow), right next to the video cards. you could get along without these mods, but i would swap out the intake fan no matter what.

ignore the cheap catmod. it broke so i threw it away.

I have a Gigabyte 3D Aurora I also have the cat mod, but I keep changing my mind about it so sometimes I have it and sometimes I dont! :cool:

My only complaint with this case is the Hard Drive Cage, theres no 2 ways about it, it was just a bad oversight on gigabytes part, I have been looking at it alot thinking about swinging it around or even removing it completly, I could put the hard drives behind a couple of the CD-rom bays and still have plenty of room.
 
Well, it looks like it's come down to the Lian-Li or the Gigabyte. I really want to pull the trigger on the Aurora... I appreciate the PC-7's understated classiness, but it looks a little plain, and the surface looks like crap when it gets dirty/finger-printed.


Someone convince me to buy the Gigabyte.... :p
 
Bottom line - Lian-Li = Class. Period. But if you want the Gigabyte then go 4 it!!! :D

What are your temps like?
 
not bad. the only part that gets a little hot is the chipset, but that doesnt go over 64C while at load. my case temps (system temps) are usually around 5C over ambient. if you get the case with mesh side panel, you wil probably do better than that. like one of the above posters said, it is a big case, almost as big as the chieftec/chenming 1030 cases everybody was using 5 or so years ago. so thats a lot of air to move. and it does it pretty well.
other than that its a great case to use, tons of space for watercooling (you can fit a 2x120mm rad on the INSIDE), lots of space and places to stash wiring, no tools except to screw down motherboard, flat finish (black), very strong chassis, removable horizontal brace. door only opens to the left (?) and the i/o ports are on the right side, near the front, which could be annoying.
 
Lian-Li PC-7B I like it and have it now..great case but my next box will be another Lian li..v1200!! cant wait :)

What about your CPU/GPU temps? The inside looks nice, do you have any more pictures?
