Which Case to Buy

Hello,

I am looking for a case that will keep my computer much cooler than it is now. Currently I am running 80-100 degrees on my GPU and 40-60 on my CPU (with after market cooler). I was looking at the CM 690, CM 590 and the CM Storm Scout.

I move around quite a bit due to my job and schooling. The CM SS is at the top end of my budget with is around 130CND. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

C

If you're wanting a case to move around alot, out of those 3 i'd go w/the CM SS as well.
Perhaps you might wish to consider aftermarket cooling for your GPU as well?

I have been looking at after market GPU cooler but since I need all of my PCIEx1 slots due to my motherboard not playing nice with PCI slots with a PCIE 2.0 card, I cannot fit the cooler on the card. As for the Silverstone, it is well above my price range it seems, although I am interested in the case and will keep looking for at different sites for it.

The Centurion 590 would do fine with your components. With some extra fans, mine does a fantastic job of keeping my PC cool.

CoolerMaster HAF 922 is a good case, huge for a mid-tower and not too heavy. Airflow is almost as good as the HAF 932, and prices just dropped to about $120. It's doesn't have the carry handle that the Storm has, which makes it a bit awkward to carry around due to its width, but it would be alot worse as a full tower

I'd go for the 590 if your goal is a cheap case that moves a lot of air. It only comes with 2 fans, but you can add more if needed. I would advise against the HAF unless you're a fan of the looks since their cooling isn't really any better than CM's cheaper offerings.

This. If you're willing to spend a little bit more, I'd go with the 690. But, aside from looks, I don't think there would be much of a difference.

The 690 looks like it would work. What would be the differences between the 690 and SS based on cooling, interior space, cable management and the possiblity of water cooling down the road?

Second that for the 690. It has good airflow with lots of fans. Also, if you do move it around the Storm Scout has handles up top that make moving it pretty easy. Not a big deal but a plus for some.

Edit: Take a look through the massive 690 gallery and see what others have done. May take a few hours but you can get some fantastic ideas.

The 690 is really nice and the gallery is awesome. However, I do not have the time or experience to do that... The most I did was put in two vents on the side of my current case for extra fans.... This is a tough choice.

With your existing hardware, any of those would do good. The 690 has a bit more length to the motherboard area, so upgrading to a bigger card later will have more space, altho the current cards will still squeeze in. The Storm Scout looks a bit shorter than the 690, but should be fine as well, plus the handles would be handy. the Newer Storm Sniper is more or less the same size as the HAF 922, but lacks the handles the scout has.
That said, I've assembled a few systems in the 690, and found it very easy to work with. The integrated cable management can be a little fussy, but it does the job, and can be removed if you don't like it. The new Xigmatech Midgard is based on the CM690 from what I've read, hope to get one in soon to see how close it is.

Has anyone used the Xigmatech Midgard? I found it for 119.00CND shipped which is about $3CND less than the SS. Would it be better than the SS?

i have the storm scout my room is currently around 70-75 degrees and its my cpu is running with a scythe mini my cpu temps are 46 degrees and my case temps are 41 degrees

It's basically the same thing as the CM 690. You might as well just get that and save a lot of money if you want something similar to the Midgard.

I really like my antec 900, it moves alot of air, and the fans were pretty quiet IMO

I decided to get the CM SS. It is a great case, my temps have dropped by 20 degrees! All I need to do is a bit more cable management. Thanks for all the help!

Cheers
