Which case should I choose?

Frankly I thought choosing a case should be easy since they’re all boxes with fans and lights, but you guys tend to complicate everything and make it like imposible fro n00bs like me to choose

first I wanna ask a question that I’ve asked before but didn’t really understand the deal
when do we choose mid tower and when do we choose the full tower?
Is full tower for PC’s with advanced futures? I mean who wants’ to buy a Q6600 and some 8800** card and maybe some CPU cooler like Thermalright Ultra-120 will be forced to go for the full tower specially if he wanted to fix some liquid cooling system or had in mind some big fan or something, otherwise he can go for mid tower though the full tower would give him better air flow (I guess)

To make it simpler, what are you using people? I have a feeling that everybody here uses full towers and I’m the only one interested in the mid tower cuz I thought that the smaller the case the better

If I had a good budget and good PC (Q6600,X38mobo,8800GT) and wanted to OC…. Is it right that I should stick with the full and stay away from the mid tower even if it was free?

I know that it’s difficult to say Cooler Maser or Titan makes excellent case’s and Rosewill or Antec sucks since many companies make such a wide range of product.
But can I just go for thermaltake Armors or nzxt generally and this 1 specially? or I should or should I start a new choosing camp for the case also? :(

Thnx dude it seems a good case (I guess) but I was planning for some $150 case, I’m not sure how exactly it will benefit me but I wanna make sure that I’m getting a good quality (I hope)

The Coolermaster 690 is good I'm planning on getting one for my next build ;)

I agree, that is a great case. I wish I waited. Plus you americans are getting a great deal, $49.99. In the UK we pay £50.

Don't worry about whether it's called a full tower or mid-tower, just get one that you like the look of, has reasonable cooling and enough space for what you'll stick in it. It's not the case (pun...) that you need a full-tower if your machine's high spec, it's just that some people like the extra space.

I got the Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 (a little cheaper than the CM Stacker 830) - it's targeted towards silent solutions rather than the cooler/better airflow Stacker 830.
I also got the Coolermaster 690 - it looks good and it easily fits under your budget. It has nice features and it runs cool. I'd recommend this over anything.

It’s nice and maybe I’ll go for it if I decided to go crazy with that DDR3@1600 :D

well if you want a full tower, you stretch your budget a little and get a Stacker 830.
I loved it, I don’t know why it’s much more expansive than the Coolermaster 690 (maybe cuz of the extra 120mm fans)
I also liked this one
and this

And as you said guys, I will not worry like before, I’ll just choose what I like and try to look for one with a transparent side (the same old reason of course… to show off the cooler and stuff :D )

this is hilarious :D

Q: Where can I get the new Alienware Case.??
A: If you really must have one of these, you can get them Here

Q: But, I REALLY like the Alienware Case, I can't afford an Alienware system ... Can't I just buy the case by itself?
A: Nope

Q: But, I REALLY REALLY like the new Alienware Case, I can't afford an Alienware system... What can I do, aren't these just OEM's from Chenming or Cheiftec? Can I just buy a knock off?
A: Nope, according to Alex Aguila President of Alienware the new look will be exclusive to Alienware forever.

Q: I REALLY REALLY REALLY like the new Alienware Big Ugly Plastic Head Alien Case. I feel like I should post a statement, question, or poll about it on every discussion board I can find. What should I do?
A: Prepeare to get flamed!

i say take a look at some lian li cases, there awesome cases that have amazing build quality and are light weight aluminum unlike those heavy coolermaster cases.

they have too many types and they all look so normal and I guess they don’t have that good cooling system, I noticed they don’t have a lot from those 120mm fans and most of them are expensive for unknown reason

Well…I figured it out now, it’s all about the Material and the fanning/fans (maybe cuz this is all I know)
This one is a steel case
This is Aluminum but only 1 x 120mm front fan and
1 x 120mm rear fan
On the other hand this case is Aluminum and with
4 x 120mm side fan
2 x 120mm rear fan
1 x 120mm front fan
and 1 80mm top fan
It looks nice but IT DOESN’T HAVE A TRANSPARENT SIDE!!!!!!! :(

Anyone knows some company with an Aluminum case with like 4 or 5 fans(120mm) and transparent side?

EDIT: wow it took alot of awards http://www.nzxt.com/products/zero/

My Lian Li PC-A70b has 6 120mm fans and not noisy at all and cools very well (23-24c idle) and looks very nice with the W-75 side panel. Yeah it cost alot, But you pay for quality and thats what you get with Lian Li cases.

This is my case, But doesnt have the window - PC-A70b

They also have an optional top panel that you can mount 2 more 120mm fans.

Plus also have you can get a clear panel or colored panel for this case, Any of the ones that are W-75x

Ya I know, It cost ALOT, But damn does it look nice with that panel and well worth it.

Build quality on the Zeros is questionable, for the price.

You might look at a P180/P182 with a windowed side if you like that kind of thing. Not a ton of fans, but well designed. Very happy with mine. Should be in your price range.

Look to Silverstone, maybe.

Also, the really "flashy" cases? They tend to be built like crap.

worths the price Difference?
Or shall I say, does the extra 4 Internal 3.5" Drive Bays worth?
isn't 6 bays more than enough? 3 is enough for me

And what’s up with the fan locations?!

It looks like it’s a case for a hard disk lover! he can put many then he can cool them well :D

Antec Performance One P180 $119.99
Antec Performance One P180B $129.99
Antec P182 $139.99

Let’s focus on the P182 since it has the best chance of beating the undefeated NZXT Zero (reminds me of Chris Horodecki) :D

555hz6.jpg

Still undefeated?!

as for Silverstone I had a look at these

SILVERSTONE TJ09-BW $279.99
SILVERSTONE TEMJIN SST-TJ06S-W $134.99
SILVERSTONE SST-TJ07-BW $329.99

Don’t wanna bother myself and compare! Even that $329 doesn’t seem to be better than the NZXT Zero!

No wonder it took all those prizes

from here:
At first glance, I thought the MSRP price tag of $150 was a bit on the pricey side. After playing with this case for a couple of weeks, I have to say it is worth every penny. Aesthetically speaking, this case very appealing; Functionally, this is a gamer’s dream case. The designer of this case definitely had SLI / CrossFire Setups in mind with it's impressive amount of air cooling mounts. The quality and styling of this case gives Lian Li and Silverstone a run for their money! The exceptional quality, construction and features of this case warrants a 8.5 out of 10 rating as well as the PC Apex Recommended Award!

from here:
I have to say that after playing with this case for longer than NZXT would have liked me to, that it was time well spent. This case is now moved to my primary system where I see it staying for the long haul. It's very quiet, very attractive, highly functional, well designed and built. While this may be my 1st experience with NZXT I can guarantee you it won't be my last.

from here:
Overall, I found the NZXT Zero to be an excellent case, inside and out. Starting with the exterior, the high gloss paint contrasts nicely with the brushed aluminum on the front bezel. Speaking of aluminum, the entire case is crafted from aluminum, making for a lightweight (and easily moddable) chassis. The Zero makes use of sleek and subtle lines, a change that has been noted in the most recent NZXT offerings. I really like the placement of the front USB/Audio/Firewire ports, especially with my desk setup. The four side panel 120mm intake fans definitely make a statement and have been the subject of conversation with more than a few of my friends that have seen the case in action. Inside, we have plenty of room to work with. The Zero can hold up to six 3.5" drives internally. Tool-less drive rails make installing these drives and the optical drives a snap. The tool-less expansion slot idea is not something I have been fond of in the past, but this system works great, holding your cards in place securely.
Looks and features can only get you so far on paper, though. So how does the Zero perform in everyday use? I will be the first to admit I was skeptical of the four 120mm side panel intake fans, dreading loud noise was in my near future. Thankfully, I was completely wrong! The Zero operates at near-whisper noise levels; one of the quieter cases I have had on my test bench in recent memory. Even with their silent operation, however, these fans pack a decent amount of airflow. Under normal operating (AIM, Winamp, Firefox, etc.) I average around 29-30 C. Full load in gaming brings the temperature up around 38 C, which is pretty impressive. Temperatures on the chipset (according to Motherboard Monitor 5) also dropped a good 6-7 C. Load temps on the video card didn't seem to improve much, however, hovering around 65 C. Besides the video card, the only other area that I wasn't terribly impressed with was the front intake fan. Removing the side panel after the computer has been on for a while reveals a pretty warm pocket of air in the hard drive cage. A dual fan intake would have been great, or perhaps making the path from front fan to hard drive cage more free-flowing would have also done the trick.
OCIA.net has awarded the NZXT Zero our seal of approval.

Let me put these links as a personal reference (I’ll comment on them tomorrow and see if they worth)

if any1 knows a case that could beat the zero please post it :)

The Zero really isn't that great. Also, any of the CM Stacker series (830 Evo, etc) will "beat" it if you just want a bunch of fans... but I'd rather not listen to a wind tunnel.

wait, did someone just compare the NZXT Zero against the Antec P182?

sorry, if it came down to it, Id say the competition for the zero is a $25 raidmax case....or an old Dell case from the dumpster behind my house....or just leaving your mobo and components exposed on your desk.

And I hate to say it, but that idea that the awards that the zero has recieved mean anything....I mean honestly, you read the titles of some of those awards...."Big Brian approved".

You cannot seriously compare the zero against the P182, one of the most popular and highest rated cases of all time.

you dont need a lot of fans for a computer to run cool, i have 1 80mm case fan as exhaust and 2 fans on my heatsink and the one on my vid card and thats it and you can see my temps in the screenshot (took that today for another forum/reason). under orthos load my core 2 is 33C and core 1 is 39C. my current case is an apevia x-navigator and its a piece of crap, theres plastic everywhere and its all broken in one way or another over the first 8 months i've had the case. lian li and silverstone cases are expensive because of their build quality. i'm gettin a silverstone tj07 in a few weeks cause i'm tired of being cramped in a mid tower and want a quality case for once an i expect that it will hold up for several years/builds. their appearence is something you get used to over time, 2 yrs ago when i got my apevia i didnt like the lian li's or silverstones either but now i see them as damn near pieces of art

Unless I’m missing something

LOL, A NZXT compared to a LL, Antec or Silverstone, Theres is NO comparison. The Antec P-182 or the Silverstone TJ07 was just 2 of the cases I looked at, Along with the giant Lian Li V2000. The Antec P182SE with its very nice mirror finish is gorgeous, So is the Silverstone TJ07 and TJ09.

As for the hd lover part, That is removable and/or can be rotated, So can the top rear 120mm fan cage.

I could care less how many bays it has, Cooling is my #1 priority and so far that case I mentioned that I bought has out-did my TT Armor case bigtime (43c for the armor compared to 22-23c for the PC-A70). Looks mean nothing to me, I'm not into getting a case for appeal, Its the cooling, Noise factor, Overall size that I care more about.

And droc said it right, Just because a case won alot of awards, Dont mean its best for everyone. The Antec P-182 is a kick ass case - Heres the awards the Antec Performance cases has won: HERE if we're going by awards.

that and Firas was not quite fully disclosing the real deal with his fancy little images.

If you want to nitpick the features, you should really point out some of the more important ones

P182 Features that he "left out":

* Dual chambers structure: The power supply (not included) is located in the lower chamber to isolate heat from the system and lower system noise
* Special three-layer side panels and front door (aluminum, plastic, aluminum) dampen system generated noise, making this one of the quietest cases available
* External fan control on the rear panel for the top and rear fans in the upper chamber
* Rubber grommeted ports on the rear for liquid-cooling tubes allow you to mount

Well folks….I was only stimulating you to reveal the good openions
Unfortunately still no real challenge (this is gonna be fun)

The Zero really isn't that great
With all respect, the professional reviewers (who actually tested it) that I quoted from them previously said it’s more than great, do I have to quote again?! Ok just this time:
this is a gamer’s dream case. The designer of this case definitely had SLI / CrossFire Setups in mind with it's impressive amount of air cooling mounts. The quality and styling of this case gives Lian Li and Silverstone a run for their money
Dam people this dude even picked it for himself

Please don’t tell me that u’r talking about something like this!! It doesn’t even come close! OMG it’s horrible, is that $149.99 that I’m seeing their true?! That’s insane, I’d rather put my rig in my monitor’s box

if you just want a bunch of fans
Now it’s a bunch of fans! Then water cooling is a bunch of pipes, between me and you..what scares you most..some air flow coming from one way? or a massive twister? Well…I guess I proved my point so I settle my case (not the ZERO)

I took u’r post seriously (though that "Big Brian approved" thing) and started staring and staring with that Attractive gun metal black finish bla bla P182 thing, forget about the steel material I won’t give you a hard time for that and I’ll just imagine that it’s light and cool, did you really see it from the inside? Outside? Anything? OMG I can’t continue
Btw, are you serious about the awards thing? Are you sure that Paris Hilton doesn’t care about the Oskar?

you dont need a lot of fans for a computer to run cool
I’ll let you listen to what you just said:
You don’t need a lot of horse power for a car to run fast

I’m seriously thinking of getting one of those TJ07 just to reveal that magical super thing behind that ugly old fashion look

Oh, it rotates…I changed my mind, rotation is important as we all know, I wish it can flip and spin, maybe in the next edition

I'm not into getting a case for appeal, It’s the cooling, Noise factor, Overall size that I care more about

what was that!

what about this?
from here

Pros:
- Big!
- Unique look
- Great cooling
- Fairly quiet
- Two 25cm LED fans
- Speed controllers for fans included
- Roomy interior
- Tool-free features
- Lots of drive space
Cons:
- Manual
- Storage box execution
- Poor front ventilation design
- No audio ports
- Location of USB/FireWire ports

I heard that if you put the special NZXT "Type R" sticker on the case, that your computer will go faster.

Its a bit loud (visually) for my living room but I quite like it.

One of the huge drawbacks of that case is the sound like mentioned. The fans are quite loud compared to the "big boy" fans used in the 900. Not only that, but the side panel is steel and where it meets the steel case, there is no padding. When the fan gets going, you can actually feel the vibration of the side, and you can hear it.
The front fan is just for looks, since you have a 250mm fan pushing into a 120mm hole seen here http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/xclio_A380_super_tower_atx_case/img/23.jpg since the lets airflow from a fan is in the middle, not much air is actually getting moved into the case...top that off with the HDD cage actually blocking the fan, you have a 250mm loud fan moving air against a wall.

The kicker with a case like that, aside from its ricer look, is that you have two(well, one really) 250mm moving air in, and only a single 120mm hole to move air out. You cant force in more then you can move out....its poor airflow design. What you want in equal number of intakes and exhaust...if not, you have fans fighting against themselves....less cooling and a louder case.

good airflow is worth the money. You want a case that will bring in cold air, move it over your components, and exhaust it out the case. Its the best way to get maximum cooling with minimum noise.

I heard that if you put the special NZXT "Type R" sticker on the case, that your computer will go faster.

Ya I know I sounded like I’m in love with that NZXT but believe me I was (as I said before) stimulating and trying to spread some humor around

Anyway

you missed the point of my post, i'm using 1 80mm case fan and got the same temps as they did using 3+ 120mm fans. that guys dosent want more fans, he needs more fans since theres a hot spot. i dont need more than 1 fan and when i take my side panel off my temps dont change because i have good airflow. i had to take out the fan by my hard drives cause they were too cool/room temp and was constantly having drive/data corruption.

review sites aren't going to bash a case because then they will stop receiving items to review

Exactly what happens here. My temps are around 22-23c with panel on, And stays the same when I take the panel off. Apparently my Lian Li PC-A70 has pretty damn good air flow, Which thats really what matters to me, That and noise level, Which having 6x120 fans, I can barely even hear running. Its ALOT quieter than my armor case I previously used. My 2 internal hdds stay pretty cool too at around 27-28c.

Also, Yeah, If you LIKE that NZXT case, Why not just get it and be done with it, If, According to you and other reviews, Its the case to 'OWN'?. Personally I think the NZXT looks rather ugly, But thats just my opinion.

Getting opinions is great, But to run other peoples opinions down with such crap like 'allow me to use my cs3 skills' and such is a bunch of ya know.

With that said, I wont reply back to this thread. Not worth my time.

Yeah, pretty much. If you're going to ask for opinions, then completely ignore all that's said, simultaneously stating that you're a "noob" and that we're all wrong... don't waste our time.

I've had more than enough of this. Not returning.

Then why going for a 2 fans only case (considering that the 4 HD fans is doing nothing)  ya stupid point but funny

2 case fans eh? HA, Your so wrong on this, Its not even funny.

Theres 4 front fans, 2 of them keep the hdds cool, And the other 2, Keep the components cool, Blowing cool air over the video card and other things. Along with the 2 fans that keep the hdds cool,
I must say my system stays very cool at 22-23c idle, 34-36 on load, Not bad for air cooling IMO compared to my previous system at 46-47c idle, 59-60 load.

Plus in january, I'll be purchasing the T-70 top panel for the PC-A70 that allows for 2 more 120mm fans. Having that many stock fans in a case and hardly hearing them is a BIG plus in my book, Means I dont have to go out and buy better fans because alot of the times the stock fans that come in cases are either poor at cooling, dont have good rpms or are very noisy.

Yeah, I said I wasnt going to reply, But I had to reply to this.

Lian Li is the way to go. I just bought the V2000B, it's a great case. The build quality is excellent. I would buy another Lian Li in seconds...

If you like those "bling" cases, go buy some crappy NZXT, Raidmax, POS case.

The V2000B was 1 of the cases I had thought about getting. Its massive. And I agree, The build quality on LL cases is GREAT. I would buy another w/o thinking twice.

sorry if I gave the wrong impression, thnx a lot for u’r help, be sure that I’ll post a pic of the case I’ll get and be sure it won’t be NZXT (mostly thermaltake with transparent window at the side panel cuz I aint droppin this feature as I said b4)
