If these 2 cards were the last cards on the planet which would would you use?

1. GeForce4 MX440se 128mb

or

2. GeForceFX 5200nu 128mb

Which owns the other...i really can't decide but i think the FX card would rape the MX..what do you all think?

In old games at low-res, they will be probably on-par. The FX5200 IS intended to replace the MX anyway. I'll pick the FX5200.

You think a FX5200nu would be playable for hl2?

Pentium4 1.5Ghz
512mb PC2100 DDR
FX5200nu

Neither. According to these numbers, I'd get an ATI IGP9100-based mobo. Check out the entire review and you'll see at 1024X768, the IGP9100 owns the MX440SE and beats out the FX5200.

You won't be playing HL2 or Doom3 on the 9100, but at least you're not throwing additional money into the toilet by buying an MX440 or FX5200.

Mikey20: For HL2, you will need at least R9600. FX cards do not have good DX9 performance. Benchmarks are everywhere about this. Plus, you probably need to upgrade the processor too. The old P4s are not good performers.

TFR: Man, you're supposed to pick from the list. ;) Besides, his question was "If these 2 cards were the last cards on the planet." :D

The IGP9100 is pretty good, but the chipset is not as fast as intel chipsets' when using a regular AGP card. So that should be a consideration if you plan to upgrade to a regular AGP video card later on.

^^ nopes contary to what everyone is saying the game will run on a geforce 3, otherwise the developers will lose a lot of money, ok so eye candy will be less but it will run.

The beta versions are yet not polished, wait for the full game to release.
