I'm trying to decide on a new card for a secondary machine. Right now it has an x1800xt. I was thinking of a 9600GSO, 9600GT, 3850, or 3870, maybe even an 8800GT. I don't really want to spend over $60, but I did see someone trying to sell a 9800GT for $75 so that might be worth it. What do you think?

EVGA 7100/630i motherboard, E2180 cpu (stock speed), 2gb OCZ RAM. Gaming resolution will only be as high as 1280 x 720, since that's the resolution of my son's TV. I guess that's about it.

With only a E2180 pushing the card, i doubt things will get much faster by going to a different card. What is the purpose in wanting to get a new card? Did this one break or something?

At that low resolution it might not make that much difference, at any rate, a 3850 would probably be the economical bet. I just picked up one in great condition for $45 shipped last week.

No, the x1800xt is working fine and is still quite good. But I have multiple PC's, and I like to "pass parts down". My father just got an AM2-based Compaq, so I'm going to replace the Sempron 3100 system that I gave him. The problem is that the Sempron system has a 6600GT AGP card and my son plays several games on that PC (TF2, L4D, Lego Batman). The Compaq only has integrated graphics, but has an x16 slot. Before I set up the Compaq for my dad, I want to get a pci-e card so that my son can continue to play games at my dad's house. His PC is 3rd on the "priority" list, so I want to put the x1800xt in his PC and put something a little better in my son's (which is 2nd on the priority list). I see no reason to keep the x1800xt in my son's and put something like a 2600xt or 8600GT in my dad's. If I did that, then both systems would probably be outdated about the same time.
