Sorry for the vague title, but I'm curious as to which card would be the best bang for the buck for 1440p gaming? Budget is 200-300$

Processor is a 965 BE Deneb @ 4.2 GHZ.

For MineSweeper? I'd suggest Matrox Millenium. Anything more would be overkill. Or do you plan to play more modern games? If so . . . NAED MOAR ENFO NAO PLX! . . . Ty :)

Also, do you mean 1440x900? There is no 1440p.

If you can find a GTX670 (perhaps used?) windforce/DCU2/lightening then that would be a good solution for 1440p as well. Best solution would probably be a 7970, and I got my 7970GHZ for $300 AR in october.
 
You still haven't told us what games you are playing. If you are playing Minesweeper, any card will work. If you are playing Unreal ( the original ), maybe some 64mb Radeon X600 will be enough.

What. . . Games . . . Are . . . You . . . Playing? Also, what PSU do you have? How much ram do you have?

How can you have your puding if you don't eat your meat? And how can we answer your question intelligently without being properly informed on the entire situation?

Fanbois can make e-peen reccomendations all day long but without proper base info, you cannot expect good advice.
 
Ah, thanks. I find it hard to believe he got a 7970 GHZ for $300, even with the recent cost drops I can't find a reference 7970 for under $350 even AR, unless his was used.
