I have a nEVGA 7800GT 256m and an EVGA 8600GT 256m cards laying around. Which is better for gaming?
The 7800gt is quite a bit longer and requires a power plug. The 8600 doesn't.
Depends greatly on the game. In some games the 8600 GT will be faster than a 7800 GT (Oblivion or any other shader intensive game). In others, the 7800 GT may take the lead, even if not by much. The 8600 GT also has hardware decoding capabilities, plus far superior image quality.So you decide based on the games you intend to play. Personally, I would use the 8600 GT. It's a better card overall, even if it doesn't beat the 7800 GT in every game.
