I currently have a EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB I am upgrading my machine real soon here and want to possibly upgrade the video card without breaking the bank can someone suggest a good route to go? I have no desire to run crossfire or sli.

for the good performance, go for a HD4890, or for a little more a GTX275.
or for a cheaper option a GTX260, or maybe even a HD4870 as they are quite good aswell.

What budget are you looking at spending for this upgrade? Also, what resolution do you plan to play your games at?

1920 x 1080 but Im not certain where I want to be budget wise I dont think I want to spend more than $200 again though..

wait or get a 4890 1gb/gtx260 everything else is crap price vs performance.

Now I am sarting to wonder if I should upgrade MB/CPU? I am currently running the following:

Intel Core 2 2160
Gigabyte GA-P35 Motherboard
4 GB DDR2

I can put a core 2 duo or quad core in this board but it would still be ddr2 or do you think I should do MB/CPU/Mem + Vid card?

In your shoes, I would upgrade the cpu and get a gtx260/hd4890.

As long as your board will support the new 45nm cpus, it's probably not worth it to buy a whole new system. Certainly, an i5/i7 system would be a nice upgrade, but if money is a concern then i wouldn't bother with a new system.

That processor is fine, and you could get away with overclocking it as well. Though at this point I would not waste the money on a Core2Quad and save it if you want to get more performance from your Cpu/Mobo.

As far as the video card, I do recommend either the 4890 if you can get it under $200. The 5750/5770 are also in your price range, but most retailers are raising the prices of those, putting them past the $200.00 price range, even though the msrp is under $200.00 (damn them).

what would you recommend taking the CPU to? What about RAM?

The Intel Pentium E2160 should be fine if you O/C that cpu to 3GHZ. You should be able to do it with that Gigabyte GA-P35 mobo. The P35 chipsets are pretty good in O/C. As far as video card, you can go with either an XFX Radeon HD 4870 1GB for $151.99 or the XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB for $189.99. The Radeon HD 4870 1GB is already a huge upgrade over that Geforce 8800GTS 640MB video card that you have.
