Which Camera?

I own both. Depends on what you want it for.

P100:
The size of the P100 is perfect for sliding into the front pocke of your jeans. Battery life is easily twice as good as the V1 (300 shots with occasional viewing). It's lightning fast in operation and startup compared to the V1. It's not as sharp when set on auto mode compared to the V1. For a point and shoot camera, it needs to be set on P mode with sharpness set to + and the auto focus assist lamp turned off for most indoor shots. In other words, it needs a little tinkering or getting used to for best results. I wish it had shutter priority and aperature priority modes like the V1, but it has full manual settings.

V1:
Excellent focus, even on auto mode and in any light (even complete darkness) due to it's hologram AF laser. Obviously the V1 gives better image quality due to it's lens and focus system, but not by much. I can say, the only real drawbacks to the V1 IMO are the speed of startup/operation, LCD size, and battery life (approx 80 mins).

You might want to take a look at the V3. I played with one today at best buy and it's really a sweet feeling camera. No official reviews yet though, but it uses the P100's battery and also takes CF cards & shoots in RAW.

Now I'm looking at the DSC-W1
the W1 is basically the same camera as the P100 but in a different body, LCD and uses AA batteries. It has the same lens and functions.

image quality > focus conditions

buy a cannon and bring a flashlight
lol
there's not much image quality to an out of focus shot, or one missed due to slow focus.
