Well as the system is drawing to a close, and getting my hands on a 6800 series or x800 series are months away, question is which budget card will work till at the verry latest the end of Nov.? was thinking about an 5500 oc from BFG, or the 5700... might even go with the 9600pro... Just not to sure at this point. Like to keep the price as low as can go, as for being getting more then likely 6800 gt at the end of Novemberish..... Please post your choices :)

Just buy the budget card of whatever brand you plan to upgrade to, neither brand is going to be massively better than the other at that price point.

i.e. if you want a 6800 buy a budget nvidia card, if you want an x800 buy a budget ati card

will make driver install on the new card easier ;)

This is a real cheap card thats a decent performer, probably the "budget" card I would buy as a holdover:

9600 pro is a good midrange card.

and tranCendenZ, thats the worst advice i've ever heard.

buy a GF4-4200 and oc it. You should be able to get one for ~100 bucks if you don't mind buying used. If you really don't want to spend more than about ~40 bucks, get a POS MX440. The MX will sux, but will make your new card in Nov. even sweeter.

just get a used ti4200, there are some nice ones in newegg refurbs right now.
