I was thinking it is one of these three: MSI frozr, Sapphire, or Powercolor pcs.

Also, will it be quieter than a plain stock version 6870? Or about the same?

I went with the Sapphire Dual Fan version just over a week ago. Prior to that I had a reference Asus 6870 that I bought at launch in Oct 2010.

Without a doubt the Sapphire is quieter. I would go so far as to say that the card is inaudible over my case fans at load. This is the case even though I am using the #2 BIOS' more aggressive fan profile & am running 1075 on the core at 1149mv. Temps at stock never exceeded 60c, overclocked 65c. My 6870 would top out at 77c degrees on the automatic fan profile.

I do not game with headphones and have deliberately chosen components that balance performance with noise. If you are coming from a reference 6870, I think you will be more than satisfied.

Thanks for the feedback. I have become more sensitive to fan noise over the past few years and currently use the Antec p183 case to help minimize it. I am pretty sure the humming is coming from the 6870 since I have a Prolimatech Armageddon with the extra large fan size for low noise output.

try using msi afterburner and create a custom profile for fan %, i have the asus 7950 cucore and leave fan to 0% which is about 1100rpm and temps never go above 72C and I can't hear it at all.
