Which 6970 would you consider?

I am decided on getting a 6970.

But there are quite a few out there. I don't OC it. Wasn't sure if the Powercolor that is OCed from factory would be a good bet. Looks like it is a non reference cooling solution...

Or would a standard card be better?

Just not sure what to get basically...

The MSI Lightning is out of stock, but that is the one I would lean towards. Or the Powercolor as you mentioned. While I do have an XFX 6970, I can't recommend it since you're not likely to get a reference card at this point. They seem to be cheaping out, as one [H]ardForum'er found recently (here).

I was seriously considering getting two MSI Lighting R6970s to Crossfire. They took forever to come out and I went with something else though.

I went with Sapphire, because they added in an HDMI cord, and an eyefinity adapter for when you wanna try it out.

Thats all win in my book

I was looking and I know its not an AMD card, but what do you guys think of the 580GTX? I know that it is a higher price than the 6970, but is it worth it?

Is it worth the price premium and extra power usage?

No it does not.

from [H] review.

"In F1 2010 the Radeon HD 6970 ended up being around 10% faster than the GeForce GTX 580. In Civ 5 there is a 17% performance gap favoring the GeForce GTX 580. In Metro 2033 there is only a 5% difference between the two video cards. In BC2 there is a 13% performance gap favoring the GeForce GTX 580. In Mafia II the video cards are nearly identical. It seems that performance is dependent on the game and can range from an overall tie to about a 20% difference.

When you consider the Radeon HD 6970 is $140 less than the GeForce GTX 580, for at most a 20% difference in performance in some games, the impression of the Radeon HD 6970 turns more positive."

I saw that after I posted this....I think the 6970 is the route I want to go. And I want that MSI Lightening too.:D

I keep flip flopping, but the Mouse cursor issues with the 5xxx and 6xxx have me wary. Some games i can't play in Full Screen because no mouse shows up, in other games the cursor is corrupted (even on the desktop the cursor is corrupted unless I have pointer trails on...)

Having pointer trails on causes other issues in some games on Radeon cards though which sucks.

The card's performance is amazing, but the little issues do add up.

The mouse issues happen very rarely. Probably like .05% might get this issue.

I have been running my 6970's in eyefinity for over 3 months now and i havent seen this issue.

And, I am the type to install all the newest beta drivers I see on guru3d.com

Do no worry about the mouse issues IMO

lol, I've been swapping out HD6870s, GTX570s, motherboards, HD5870s, and HD5770s (I really had two of each o.0) all on the same install. No cursor corruptions, yet. If there is anyone who should be seeing problems out the wazoo, it's me :p

I recently went through the same debate recently and I ended up deciding on the MSI for two reasons.

1. I noticed that if someone posted a doa card, which happens, MSI responded on newegg and that impressed me. (I know seems stupid but they cared enough to respond)

2. MSI seems to have kept the ref design and I feel like they wouldn't screw us over like XFX, sapphire, but that's probably to good to be true eventually.

I am definitely getting the MSI. Just waiting for it to get back in stock at newegg. Not sure where else to get it..

Well, now I am thinking of getting the 6990 instead. Maybe just go all out and get that one...
