I'm getting confused on all the different type of 6800's vannilla. WHich one do you guys recommend i get?

if you plany to overclock then that is a good card cuz it has a good heatsink on it. the 6800 OC is overclocked and backed by a warranty even though its overclocked from the manufactorer.
 
ya i plan to overclock, thats why i got the big heatsink one. if u guys think i could pull bigger numbers with the BFG then i might cancel my order.
 
Actually the BFG at outpost is about 30 bucks cheaper. and has a clock of 350mhz aposed to 325mhz.
 
shipping and tax makes them the same. on newegg some people say that they can overclock theire leadteks to the 400 range i'm sure BFG is similar.
 
Leadteks *seem* to be one of the two best brands for modding to full 16-pipelines, too.

I got a refurb version of that very card on Newegg for $250 shipped, so I'm crossing my fingers (but not holding my breath - it IS a refurb, after all).
 
IMO Id say go for this one:

evga limited edition

This one has a huge heatsink and 256MB DDR3 mem, yet 12pipes. should give u a nice boost in performance. its basically an Asus GF 6800 Vanilla which has 256MB DDR3 and 12pipes but the asus costs a lot more.

Doesn't the Asus have only DDR1?
 
If you think at some point in the near future you would like to upgrade to a GT then I would definately go with eVGA because of their "Step-up" program. Simply send in your nu within 90 days and then pay the difference between a GT or even Ultra.
 
not to mention that evga card looks like the same pcb as the 6800ultra. might have a good chance of unlocking all 16 pipes too...
 
I recently picked up the chaintech AA6800 and think that is worth a look. It comes slightly overclocked over a standard 6800nu at 350/770. Mine was able to enable the full 16 pipes and 6 vp's without any issues and overclocks even further to 435/910. It was $272 to my door.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Even better if you can enable all 16 pipes, too.
 
i'm interested in this evga limited edition card. if i could softmod it to an ultra that would be totally tits.

does someone have a link to eVGA step up program?
 
It seems like $250 for the BFG 6800 OC is the best way to go vanilla-wise. A lot of peeps think the pipe-unlock potential of the eVGA LE card will be severely limited due to the possibility that these are basically Ultras that failed to run at all with 16 pipes, which would makes sense seeing as the cards are priced the way they are. Someone just needs to go ahead and buy one so we can find out for sure what the deal is. Check this thread for more info about the eVGA LE card.

From what Ive read here the bfgs seem to have the best 16 pipe sucess rate.

The Asus has higher mem speed tho.

the eVga seems to be the way to go because even if it has low success rate then it doesnt matter, since after unlocking the pipes it the BFG and others will be severely limited with the 128MB of Ram, not to mention that the success rate is quite low anyway.

So if u compare the performance of 16pipe 6VP 128MB 6800 Vs The 256MB eVga with 12pipes 5VP the performance difference wont be much, the eVga will win some, lose some. And as i said, the pipe unlock thing is really luck of the draw, with a low success rate. The eVga has DDR3 btw, that should help the OC.

However i think the eVga ones wont really have much chance of unlocking to 16pipes, since i think they are failed ultras(they have two molex connectors) . Still i think they are a better deal for $329, and with the step up program of eVga, they really are a good deal.
 
Or you could forget both of these cards and just get the eVGA 6800 GT. You still get the benefit of 256MB of GDDR3 clocked at 1ghz (instead of the 700mhz on the LE) and your're guarenteed a faster card than both the BFG 6800nu and the eVGA 6800 LE (failed Ultra model). The GT will almost definitely have much better OC and soft mod potential. The price difference is not that much considering this bundle includes Doom 3...

You can also find 6800 GTs for less -- I know Outpost had BFG GTs for $350 a while back. They seem to come in and out of stock. If you don't want to spend that much -- I still think the BFG 6800nu is an awesome deal at $250. nVidia is actually discontinuing the 6800nu and replacing it with the 6700, which will be locked down with very limited OC and mod potential.

So...what's the secret to softmodding a 6800GT???? It already has 16 pipes and 6vp like the ultra...there aren't another 4 pipes or vp to unlock...just overclocking.

That is evil, and you should be pelted with coffee mugs for thinking about it. If you want the 4 extra pipes, just friggin save up some extra cash and get the GT, think about how much time and effort you will save yourself and others. Don't RMA a card because you can't unlock the extra pipes.

Oh, c'mon, there is no reason why not.

Overclocking, sure, it voids the warranty. Unlocking pipes?

I mean, if I bought a 6800nu from Best Buy and took it home and didn't like the performance of it, I can return it and say "It did not perform as fast as I'd like" and THAT's a valid reason to return it! (It is a valid reason - that's the whole point of their customer service policy, if you aren't happy with it, TAKE IT BACK!)

How is it any different to buy one, take it home, and if the pipes don't unlock to return it and say "It did not live up to what I was hoping for"? They'll take it back for that reason, and it's 100% true! You aren't lying or even mistating something. That is EXACTLY the reason you are taking it back for!

Now, they aren't going to let you KEEP exchanging it because you "aren't happy with it". You get basically two shots is all, if you aren't happy with it after the second try the product is obviously not for you, so....

get the leadtek! woo woo. i had a gf4 ti4400 from leadtek they had the big ol heatsink and dual fan thing on it. worked wonders oc'ing and this one aint too shabby either.
