I'm trying to decide which 4K monitor to get. I was all set to get the Philips BDM4065UC but then I started reading about its issues with colour bleed.

Now I'm thinking of maybe getting the Sony 43X830C as it's an IPS which is what I'm used to and always preferred. I don't know too much about this one though but saw that it does 4K @ 60Hz and 4:4:4.

I'll be driving whichever I get with a 980ti.

Which one should I go for or should I look at something else as well?

My budget is max £700/$1000

Edit: forgot to say my main use will be gaming. I play mostly MMO's and Elder Scrolls/Witcher type games. Not really any FPS at all.

Thanks for any help!

The Sony has about 36ms of input lag so it might affect online gaming since there's already latency to begin with. Just something to consider but other than that the Sony is a pretty good choice as it's one of the few PWM free large 4k displays not including Korean brand monitors sold on ebay.

Any IPS above 31" inches will have panel uniformity issues and mediocre black levels.
It's the reason why many of the quality large format TVs (40"+) have VA panels.

They cant even smaller on like 24''. But bigger screen then more uniformity issues, ips glow and contrast problems.

All high end TVs use VA or OLED. IPS only use low-mid TV-s.

Thanks for all your replies. I currently have an IPS monitor, 24" HP LP2475W and love the picture quality but would really like to move up to a big screen for gaming.

My TV is also an LG 1080p IPS and I've always thought it had superb image. I've never seen a VA or oled though so maybe my eyes are just used to the IPS quality.

Out of the Sony and the Philips which one would you guys pick?

I would go with a Samsung JU6500/6700 series TV if you have a Nvidia GTX 950 or above video card.
But of course you will need a GTX 980Ti to run 4K at good framerates.

If you have money to spend, the Samsung 48" JS9000 is unmatched.

Sony isn't as refined and Phillips have their issues.

If you have 1080p IPS TV maybe you can play games with it until next year? 2016 Q1 we see new TV-s and I bet they are better than 2015 model year stuff.

I went to the shops today and had a look at the Sony 43X830C. It actually looked really good. Obviously hard to tell in a brightly lit shop but they had it displaying some high res still images that were pretty dark and it still looked very good. The bezel is super thin as well. Looks very nice.

Now I'm really torn between the Sony and the Samsung JU7500. I'm just trying to convince myself the Samsung is worth almost double the price. After today I'm not sure but the curve is nice.

I saw one of the JU6xxx series. It was a 40" model with a curve and it made the screen look tiny compared to the 43" sony. So if I did go for the JU7500 it would have to be a 48" I think.

Will I regret spending over $1800 on the Samsung when the Sony is $1000 that's the question.

I think you regret. For that 800dollar what you save you can buy much better screen 2-3 years later than that JU7500.
Sony is flicker free too but JU7500 isn't and seems like you prefer IPS more than VA so Sony fit better for you because JU7500 use AV panel.

I think all of those have way too much lag to be considered

There just aren't high large 40+ inch 4k displays that have low lag. Even the monitors (Not TV's) have input lag figures around the 20ms range. But really I don't think it will matter too much because few people are going to be using such displays for serious online gaming anyway.

Samsung, LG, and Sony are WAY over 20ms. And I'm sick of people saying this is a gaming issue. It's a mouse usage issue.

IPS in general is going to have terrible blacks. It doesn't matter to much to me, as it helps to see in the dark which is an advantage. But that Samsung monitor with freesync looked nice 28" is sort of small for 4k though

Here in the UK we have 3 models of the 43X830C. KD-43X8305C, KD-43X8307C and KD-43X8309C.

The only difference I can find is something called Motionflow XR. The 3 models have 800Hz, 900Hz and 1000Hz respectively. As I understand this is some kind of frame insertion function.

I'm I right in saying this is totally useless when the TV is used as a monitor?

Reason I'm asking is the price difference between the first two models and the 8309C one is almost $300.

Can I ignore this feature and save some cash?
