Which 4870x2 driver?

Some folks with that card who have reported issues with the 8.7 have had no problems with the 8.8 betas, might be a per-mobo/chipset kind of deal.

Yeah, im reading some of the same. I will give the 8.8 betas a shot.

using the betas as well

wish they'd release something official and hopefully make 4870x2 crossfire scale better

great thread, can we get some linkage? =P (yes I know google's my friend, but it would be 1 less step)

Installed 8.8 beta's and got an error first bootup saying my driver isnt supported by this version of catalyst? So I reboot again and no problems after that. Catalyst seems to work ok. Whats wierd is i get one temp displayed in catalyst.. is that normal? card idles at 65C and fan spins up quick soon as its under load. I am happy with this.. quiet at idle and loud when im gaming and dont care if its loud. How well do these things OC?

As I am waiting for my 2nd card...I've never used CF only SLi...so do we need to install the drivers once per card?

What are you guys getting for idle temps? I am getting 65C at idle but have yet to watch my load temps.

43~48 on idle
60~70 on load
fan speed 45%

i cant stand the default fan speed, its running at only 27% with 70C on idle and 90C on load. ridiculous!!

loading vista now, but I just want to let everyone know, I just burnt the sh*t out of my finger since I was moving stuff around and accidentally "grazed" my finger on the 4870x2....holy crap that thing is hot...

I'm going to run temp sensors to the back of each card...wow, so be warned

Yup, mine gets very hot to the touch. My peak gaming temp has been 83C without touching any fan mods. My fan cranks up loud when I am gaming which is fine as long as its quiet at idle.

the entire back of my case gets hot when gaming lol

internal temps are fine but the coverplates and case itself are hot

Well, everything looks good. Going to spend all tonight installing games etc.

btw, can anyone w/ CF (ahem Canada =P, address my driver question? do I need to install the driver again once I add my 2nd card?)

thanks!

no , you only install it once, xfire is enabled by default, for two cards

for a single 4870x2 i dont think its considered "crossfire" in the drivers

i have 8.52.6 - which is this? 8.7? 8.8 beta? Its the one that came with the CD

I never installed the one on the CD, but I think it's 7. something, I didn't even bother and just downloaded the 8.8 beta's

thanks Canada, so the 2nd card is just plug and play, which is nice

latest drivers are 8.54 betas. installed them yesterday and the "seem" to be working

thanks speedy, gonna try them out tomorrow

np :) but a warning. Theres two versions of it, a cut down version of it which is 126 mb, in which some people get problems some don't. Then theres the 400mb version which you have to set the install to custom and only install CCC and the driver. I did the 400mb version and so far, as i said earlier, it "seems" to be working :)

thanks for the warning! wow 400mb driver good grief....soo I have to make sure to do the "custom" install and install ccc and the driver only
