Need to buy an Xbox Elite console for my son in time for xmas! I've been eying the new holiday bundle for $299 (I know I can get it cheaper, but I have a Dell coupon for free money!). Also looked at the COD edition and it only has an extra controller and larger HD for $100 more. Is it easy to upgrade the HDs in these things? I think the Holiday bundle is better for us (already have the COD game on PC).
 
If you're going to get another controller and COD, then the COD edition is probably worth it. That will pretty much cover the extra $100 price tag.

If you don't need either COD or the extra controller, I'd go with the holday edition. It's a solid deal with two good games.

Hard Drivers are easy to change. They just snap on to the outside case. However, they don't use standard hard drives so you have two options. You can buy a new one from Microsoft for a small fortune or you can mod a third party drive to work in your Xbox. As far as the mod goes -- I haven't done it but it appears to involve hooking the old drive up to your computer, pulling some information off it, hooking the new drive up to your computer, and putting that information on it. I believe this involves firmware, too, but like I said -- I haven't done this. I've got a 60gb drive and it's more than enough room for me. If I ever need space I can delete some of the 30gb of demos I've downloaded...
 
You need to be very weary about third party HDD swaps too, thats why people got banned.

THe hdd's are just a plug and play option, but a new 60GB goes for $80, 120GB goes for $120 just to give you an idea.
The 250GB that comes with COD edition alone makes up for the extra $100, but you also get that second controller and COD MW2, so its not a bad deal.

?? Why? Were people copying and making duplicate accounts or something, or was it just MS being bitches and not allowing you to upgrade your own stuff?
 
I wasn't aware of any bans for HDs. The only thing that I read was that some third party storage devices were disabled (just memory cards, not hard drives).
 
I reading some, it seemed some were banned for editing their profiles or saved games, but not for a simple swap and copy? They recommended MOVING your saves, etc. to a storage card before the swap and then moving them back after (not copying).
 
Looks like a deal! However I have an e-certificate ($350 worth!) I'm spending at Dell for free presents. Already ordered the same bundle. Was going to get the COD bundle, but seems like they've sold out since last night.
 
Just get a Xbox 1 they are way cheaper and has more games!

Looks like you've already bought your bundle. Honestly (to me at least) the 250GB HDD for the CoD bundle is almost overkill. I've got a 60GB w/3 games installed (one of which is Forza 3 at almost 10GB's) and I've still got like 25GB's left. The 120 of the standard elite should be plenty big.

IIRC they banned for HDD swaps as well.

Does he PC game?

My son HAD to have a 360 for X-Mas last year because his friends had one. It now gathers dust. He's PC gamed over the years and quickly realized he enjoys PC gaming more.

So for us buying a 360 was a total waste of money.
 
Unless you plan on buying a lot of DLC or downloading and not deleting demo's, the larger HDD's really are not necessary on the 360 since games don't require an install anyways. Definitely go with an HDD model though for game saves/patches. For a typical user, a 60GB model will probably be more than you will ever use.

Also, do not buy a used 360. Get a new one that you know will work and be covered by their 3 year guarantee.
