I suggest that you go hang around some deal sites (such as slickdeals) before making the purchase. The s2409w, for example, had been sold at less than $200 (brand new from Dell) in the recent past.

yes I wish It was $200 shipped brand new. See im not sure how long I can wait for that deal to happen again. As I just ordered all my parts for the desktop and im coming from a laptop....

Whoa... TN beauties.
Be sure to take a monitor with standard colour gamut (~sRGB), this excludes the Asus. I'd take the Gateway, if it is a standard gamut model.

yes im planning to either go with the dell or the gateway......no to happy that their refurbs as they only have 90 days but oh well...

Get a Dell 2209WA, I just bought a brand new one from an eBay power seller for $230 with the Dell 3 year warrantee and free shipping. No taxes either.

e-IPS vs TN no contest.

too small and crappy resolution 1680x1050 . 1+ for IPS though. Im getting SLI cards so that would of not worked out too well.... I need 1920 X 1080 or 1920 X 1200 .

i just got this one this week, its $250 at the egg or compusa/tiger

not read any site reviews, just user ones and decided to get it.

anyway thought i would mention it, i need to play some more games but so far not noticed any trouble with dow soulstorm or counter strike source. I like it better than the two crt's i was using. its a TN though

Acer is not known for quality. whatever you do stay away from Acer its a cheap brand... I doubt they even have any warranty's unless you pay extra....

I would go for brands like Dell, gateway, Samsung, Asus, etc.

I ended up running out of money, pretty much with no monitor. So I was in the same position until I bought the Dell S2409W. I've read a lot of positive things from the guys over at AVS forums. They know their screens well enough.

Read that thread, it's long but insightful complete with pics. My Dell should arrive in about 2 hours.

ok but were you alright with the 1920 X 1080 16:9 resolution in all pc games?

I have the s2409w and it is not all that great. many pics that look fine on my other lcds and crt look horrible on the s2409w no matter how much I tweak it. its like the colors get washed out and loot like 8 bit color in some respects. heck even my roommates old laptop display is better when it comes to displaying pics.

Perhaps you got a bad unit. Mine is Rev A01. The picture is very nice for a TN, and the viewing angles are quite acceptible. I just bought a notebook for my wife yesterday and my S2409W looks much better than her notebook. As for the colors, the look good enough for me, they're deep and rich looking. I've toned the brightness down quite a bit and the contrast. To each his own. I'm happy. Except I have one stuck/dead pixel.

Nvidia101.

I haven't had much time to mess around with any PC games. However a quick and easy solution is youtube. There are plenty of videos in HD that will show how they look and perfrom. They looked all good to me.

i think i might go with the gateway as it has a nice glossy screen. I looked at the dell S2409W and its to wide. 1920 x1200 would be a better resolution over 1920x 1080.

Glossy... Are you sure? Have you worked with a glossy LCD before?

my laptop has one . it brings the colors out. its not really reflective much.
well some are. I have used a couple of HP glossy monitors and they were ridiculous. any light source in the room would make reflections and if you have a window behind you then forget about it. hey I am an okay looking dude but I dont want to stare at myself on the monitor all day...
