I'm trying to buy a 20 inch widescreen that can run my xbox (not xbox 360) at high definition resolutions.

If i have the high def pack for my xbox and i get a 20 inch monitor with component wont i be able to run my monitor on dvi and then use my monitor to run my xbox at high def?

Thanks a lot boyeez

The following are the only 20" monitors I know of that have component input:
Gateway FPD2185W 21" - $599.99
Samsung 215TW 21" - $549.99
Dell 2405FPW 24" - $849.15

Just so you know, the original Xbox doesn't output most games in true HD. It outputs 480p, which is not HD. HD is 720p or 1080i, which is only supported by a select few Xbox titles (Such as: Freedom Fighters - 720p, Enter the Matrix - 1080i)

Don't forget the North American version of the NEC 20" monitor ... NEC 20WMGX2...

hmm i thought more were in true high def. o well. im using whatever monitor i get next year as my only tv so i need something thatll accept the imputs.

itll still look better as 480p on my monitor then on a tv right?

I know, hense why I put the size of each monitor next to it. 21" is close enough to 20", and I thought I'd mention the 24" Dell just in case.

NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 blows all those monitors away. The component output on this monitor is great with my Xbox 360. The component connection on this sucker supports 720p and 1080i. I use 720p.

For those other monitors:

Gateway 2185 - too dark
Dell 2405- input lag and 1080i (some have mentioned it is just upscaled 480p)
Samsung 215TW - read the instruction manual, it only supports 480p via component connection

Again, the NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 is the clear winner. I know because I'm looking at it right now :D Best monitor I've ever owned. Period.

here's a snap of my 2007wfp... im not sure what type of connection you're talking about though.

The 2005/7 only have composite and s-video. The 2405 has that as well as component.

I'd hope so, considering the price of the NEC :)

I want one. :(

The Samsung 215tw supports 720p on the component inputs with the 360, so that's all that matters :)

And I just looked through the entire manual. I found no reference in it saying that component only goes up to 480p, except in film mode, whatever that is...

Also, nowhere in

He didn't mean component won't do 720p, he meant very few XBox games support 720p or 1080i, so it's not worth the trouble.

Actually, I am mistaken if the Samsung 215tw does 720p via component. I guess that makes it another good solution assuming it keeps the 16:9 aspect ratio.

I'd still be hesistant to buy the Samsung considering it uses the same panel that is on the Gateway and I was not impressed with the Gateway.
