So I am looking for a new PC speaker set. I currently have a 10+ yr old Cambridge Soundworks set(4 satellites and a sub) connected to my built in/onboard sound card.

I have been watching a lot of movies on my PC and would like something with better sound and would alos like to clean up some of the wire mess.

The Corsairs are nice but the $250+ price tag is a bit of a put off compaired to the other 2.1 sets.

The Logitech and Klipsch seem to have preety good reviews and the $150ish price is in my range. Best Buy currently has the Klipsch on sale for $129 so I am leaning towards those.

Main use will be for Gaming, Movies, Music, and Tunebite for ripping.

Also would adding a Sound Card instead of using my onboard mobo audio make a huge difference?

Thanks in advance for any comments/concerns/suggestions.
 
Same boat here. Except the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 are $200 for me. Maybe better than the logitechs @ 120..
 
Amazon has the Z2300 set for $110 free shipping.
I own a set, and could not be happier. They get LOUD, and stay clear at high volumes. You cannot go wrong with either set though. Yes, get a sound card. You dont shell out $100+ for speakers, and use onboard. Thats just my train of thought though...
 
I just got the Kipsch Pro Media 2.1 from Best Buy. They sound great no doubt, but I've owned it for all of a week and already have an issue with my volume control knob (volume control works for the left speaker, right speakers stays 100% volume no matter what). Going to return them and get either the Corsair or Antec speakers.
 
Please also consider the partsexpress route. You can get much more sound for the same $$. A bit more effort to setup but nothing any trained chimp could not handle. Even I can do it. Look for the T-Amp/bookshelf deal and a 8"-10" sub.

dont mean to hijack, but i just went on their site. very interesting. might give that setup a shot myself...have you ever heard the z2300's? how would this compare?
 
Like a Jr high wrestler vs a sumo. Much more sound in every category. Larger speakers. More power. Cleaner electronics. Just more for the $$. Logitech and klipsch PC speakers are not terrible but they are overpriced.
 
very interesting option then, and not bad for the price. How would I connect a sub to the amp? I didn't see a sub out option? Also, I assume your referring to the Dayton Audio T-Amp and B652 Speaker Bundle.
If I like enough, Z2300's sell like hot cakes on craigslist
 
Go with the Corsairs, I got them and I love them. They can get loud and still sound amazing.
 
I would recommend parting together a system so you can upgrade or repair if something breaks.

I ve been through the same speaker setup as you. "cabridge sound works, lasted 5 years, klipsh 2.1, lasted 4 years. Once they break youre SOL unless you can get a part. My klipsh just went out 2 months ago and im not too happy i only got 4 years out of them. Currently planning on something more modular . Currently considering the tamp combo and adding a sub...
 
So I went ahead and picked up a sound card. The Titanium HD. Plan to install later tonight.
It also just occured to me that I have an old receiver sitting in the garage.
Since I seem to be getting the audio bug I might try setting it up
