I'm currently in the market for a new monitor... and while I've gotten a lot of feedback and done a lot of research on IPS displays, I'm not 100% convinced that they're the way I want to go.

So... I'd like to get an idea of what good TN displays are out there and read up on them before I decide.

1920x1200 is a must. Well... I might consider a higher res... :D
Due to pixel density, I'm really wanting to keep it around 24", but I'll consider larger displays if they're a really solid product.
Blacks levels are important; although I do realize that this isn't a strength of IPS or TN, so I'm not looking for PVA black levels.

Mostly going to be used for web browsing, coding, and gaming.

It's all about the budget..

None of the current 1200p IPS (Dell U2410/HPZR24 400$+) or TN (Asus V266H) displays are as good as the 23" 1080p's like the Dell U2311H (IPS 300$), Samsung XL2370 (TN 290$) and Acer G245H (TN 250$).

All of the 1080p displays I listed can reach near VA level blacks (0.12cd/m2) @ 120cd/m2 brightness and will give you much better contrast and gaming performance.

If you want a higher res screen get the Dell U2711 (1440p, 900$?) and if you have 1300$ get the NEC PA271W (1440p).

Not much point in posting reviews untill I know the budget

NCX, I was looking at $300-400ish.

What it sounds like is that if I want the extra 120 lines I'm going to be boned... having to make serious compromises, and that I'll probably be best to go with a 1080 and use my 204Bs (if I can keep them working...) for hight-intensive ops.

Or I guess I could skip the 1920 x 1200/1080 res and go to 2560 x 1440 and go with a complete system upgrade... and spend way more than I was planning.

Haha, yea that just happened to me only planned to spend a few bucks upgrading a old motherboard and spiraled into system upgrade, then I wanted new monitors and now I went and upgraded the graphics card as well spending 600 more than I wanted. But this is [H]ard we are talking about, thats how we roll. :p Now in the process of looking for the monitor haha, so I will probably be monitoring the thread as your requirements pretty much are exactly what mine is 300-400 dollar 24"+ monitors.

Well... I bought a house this spring, so as much as I'd like to throw $3k into a really sweet system, I'm trying to be good... :D

None of the 2560x1440 displays will give you as good contrast and gaming performance as the 1080 displays either, and also cost a minimum of 3x more.

If you want a new display stick with 1080p and loose an inch of screen size. Remember bigger is not better when you have to pay to sacrifice contrast and response times.

If you want IPS get the dell U2311H, but be warned about the quality control issues and it may take 3 exhanges to get a good unit.

Bleh, I do a lot of other stuff where the extra vert res would be really handy, and I'm really not sure how long my 204Bs are going to last.

Maybe the answer is that I get a 1080 TN and get an IPS to run in portrait mode when the 204s finally go.

Hm, I guess another option is to grab a FW900, but I'm not sure I can deal with the bulk... and I have concerns about how long it'd last.
