Well, just today my old viewsonic 17" crt died and looks like i'm stuck needing a new monitor.

I'll be looking at LCDs but i'm wondering are there any decent models out there?

Preferably, i'm looking for:

-no ghosting
-strong color rendition
-deep contrast
-no backlight issues

I would like to use this monitor for photo editing as well as gaming, and would like to remain below $350 if possible.

I've heard people mention the samsung 940B as a good monitor for people coming from CRT's, but I'm open to any suggestions.

more thumbs up from me. if you have done the research on here, the 940b seems to be quite the upstart lately, im definately impressed

I'm wondering how it compares to say the 915 - isn't that the same panel as the LD90, which had the line problem?

with those panels i worry about dithering/non-smooth transitions in color. my 710n left things looking really washed out and the color banding on the weapons in CS:S annoyed the hell outta me. now i'm trying to figure out if LCD or fw900 is the way to go (if anything over my fe991sb NEC).

To add, since i'm looking for the best color rendition possible, is a TN screen still the way to go? Or should I look into PVA screens?
