Recently I added a second rad and a cpu block to my loop. I leak tested for two evenings and everything was fine. However, ever since I got everything up and running the water level has been slowly decreasing, and I have had to fill the res at least 3 or 4 times now. I have checked every possible location for any potential leaks, but everything is normal. What the heck is going on, and where is my water going??
 
It can't be evaporation - it's disappearing too quickly and it never did it before.

The new rad is a 360, and I'm taking the water level from the res (micro res2).
 
That's what I assumed, but it just seems odd that I've filled it a few times already. Plus I don't notice any air going into the res. Oh well, as long as nothing actually leaks I'll be happy!

Not odd at all, especially if you recently opened your loop. I cant tell you what i went through to bleed my loop which consisted of one radiation, one block, and a pump/res combo.
 
How big is the rad. How often are you having to fill it up. Has it just been over a few days. If so might just be air making its way out of the loop unless you have put more in then what you started with.
 
The air will work its way out just keep an eye on the level and make sure it doesn't pick up more air when it's low in the res.
 
Probably air in your radiator. One time, after I filled up my system, air bubbles started appearing in my reservoir. Apparently my radiator still had air bubbles trapped inside, even though it was ~1 month after I filled the system.
 
Cool stuff. Thanks for the replies, everyone. I picked up another gallon of distilled water tonight, so I should be set, haha!
 
WAIT... You used a gallon already?!

I didn't even use a half gallon with my RX360, CPU, 2 GPU's and dual 5.25" bay res.
 
o.o what advansuper said. Are you absolutely sure you don't have a leak somewhere? I've refilled my system about 3-4 times with 2 GPU's, GTS 420, CPU, and Micro-Res 2 and I haven't used 3/4 of a gallon yet.

Maybe your radiator is leaking, did you check that out? You almost definitely have a leak somewhere.
 
Haha, no, I don't mean I used the previous entire gallon just on this loop! The water has been used in other things (clothes iron, older loops, etc.).
 
ahhh... that makes more sense. Just how much water did you put in there? My loop takes about 3 cups or so.
 
wrap all your connections, unused barb ports, and bottoms of your rad/res in tissue paper. Put dye in your loop. If there's a leak the paper will be stained.

but won't that dye break down eventually and clog the loop?:rolleyes:

no not really, thought it may stain the hose... i use a few drops of fluid from a highlighter pen ( pop the end cap off, pull the felt cartridge, and squeeze a few drops into the res/fill tube) let it run for a few hours... shine a black(/UV) light on every thing, if you have a leak, it will glow outside of the hose. very easy to spot. the bonus, is you end up with glowing water.. the downside is that it WILL stain your hose a gnarly "old plastic yellow" color if you leave it in, it will glow for a good few months. but it takes some doing to get it all out again.
 
probably your little sister/brother has done some voodo magic on it, just throw in some holly water and you'll be alright.
 
Yeah, dye will never touch my loop. I know I don't have a leak, though, and the water level seems to be stabilizing now. It barely moved at all today.
 
Em its called bleeding. Its normal it happens in the first week or so as the air bubbles gets out of the system. So just check for leaks. If there ain't any don't worry about it. Its perfectly normal
 
Sounds good. That means almost all of the air is gone. Just out of curiosity, about how much water did you use?
 
Ummm, I would guess around three cups. That's a pretty rough estimate, though.
