Where can you find out what core your cpu has? i have a 1.6 ghz p4... not shure what core.

They only made I type of P4 1.6 desktop Just a matter of having 256 or 512 cache. the latter is the good overclocker that I have running at stock voltage 2.25 and can do 2.4.

It says on the cpu as to how much cache

No. The 1.6 only had 256K L2 cache. There were two different ones though, a 423 pin and a 478 pin. Both were Willamette cores.
