Hey guys.

I'm looking to purchase a dremel so I can get a handle on how to cut and shape items so I can fabricate a case.

All the ones I find have 200 accessories and a bag making the price in the $80 range.

Realistically all I want is a cutting wheel and a drill attachment. I believe target had a no-name dremel like tool for $35 but it just didn't look like a nice piece of equipment to me.

Preferably want to purchase locally.

Also where do you guys buy your colored plexiglass?

Lowes has a very wide variety of Dremmel products.
I got a pretty big kit there around Father's Day for $65 that was usually $100.

I get my colored Plexi from Performance-PCs.

But, these guys have everything under the sun, for a big project:http://www.mcmaster.com/#plastics/=z49uk

If you have a Harbor Freight hardware store, that would be an excellent place to look.

Delvie's Plastics is the best place for plexiglass. You want cell-cast plexiglass because it is much better to work with than extruded plexiglass.

harbor freight does have a very large selection of tools but i would not trust any of their power tools.

OP, I would get a dremel branded one with variable speed. although i own a craftsman one and it has served me great over the years. fits with all the Dremel brand accessories too.

I agree. Harbor is a great place to buy clamps, hammers, bits you'll only use once, and other tools you'd consider unimportant or you expect o destroy. I did buy a heat gun there that has been in use for about 10 years now, so I got lucky on that one.

i have this and its fantastic. would recommend it.

used to make a case window and blow holes on multiple cases. has worked quite well.

dont get a battery powered one... they die too quick.

Yeah I newbed out and purchased a battery powered one, going to return it for one with the coard. Also got a jig saw from Harbor Freight, 20$ weekend deal and it cuts fine so far. Need the dremel though because its quieter. Apartments ftl.

get a black and decker rotary tool. a little cheaper than a dremel. and it's a lot more durable. I've burned through at least 3 dremels, and the B&D has been going strong for over a year.
