I'm in need of 70 or more patch cables... Mainly looking for like 6 foot ones may need a few that are longer... where do you guys recommend looking for a good price and not getting raped on shipping..

I tried newegg but they have limited amounts of them, tried adding like 70 6 foot ones and it said they weren't available and only let me add 25... then wanted $50+ to ship.

Looking for a company to order these from not ebay.

thanks.

Honestly? For 70 cables I'd just have the lowest paid staff member or intern make them.

Never again. I used to do this and the headaches aren't worth it. When you do the economics it is better to have pre-made certified cables. You still have to provide cable, tools, and RJ-45 ends when making your own which may be more expensive then buying cables in bulk.

It's also easier to make cabling look better because when you make your own they are going to vary in length as they screw up, cut off the end, and strip the cable and start over. It may certify on your tester but over time as that cable is used it is going to slip out of the jacket and start to look bad.

I usually do Newegg but the most I have bought are 50 at a time. It seems like if you go above that then they have "insufficient quantity." Maybe if you give them a call you can get them to order more for you from their distributor.

go to CDW.com, and search their network cables for "snagless". They sell Belkin 7' for about 6 bucks. These are nice cables- available in colors; soft jacket; and they use a molded strain-relief with a half-boot to prevent snagging the tab, while still leaving the tab exposed (full boots are a pita to release). These are really nice cables for cheap.

We buy all of our cables for great prices from a company called Gruber, may want to check them out.

Gruber/Greybar aren't bad. Personally, I deal with a local (bay area) engineering co. for our cable/wiring closet needs. http://www.signal-engineering.com/

They rock, the staff is knowledgable and they can custom make cables to fit your needs. (Ie: color coded cables, with different color snagless jackets.) They even have a multitude of different kinds of snagless sleeves. Once you run into cases where some of the molded-snagless cables with jackets prohibit fat fingers from disconnecting cables... You'll realise the importance of cable design.

Spending much of my time in the wiring closet or the colo, I've come to realise the importance of it. Especially color coding, etc.

There is a clearance special going on at www.hyperlinktech.com. 6ft. cables are $0.79 when purchased in quantities of more than 10. They do have a minimum $100 order amount, so you'll probably have to pad it with something else. Shipping is pretty reasonable compared to some of newegg's fixed shipping formula calculations.

I have used Gruber in the past for cables without any problems. Gray Bar is another decent distributor to look at.

Also anexter.... we buy them like a hundred at a time... and odds are if you really dont want to pay shipping send that intern (tooless) to their wearhouse that is probably closer then you think (if you are in a decent sized city that is)

QFT!! plus you have to test each and every single one and weed out the bad ones

making your own cables these days is pretty pointless unless you need one or two custom length cables

For bulk cables I'd even try eBay. You can sometimes find some pretty decent deals on there.
