Where the FREAK is the Crysis patch at?!?!?!

i had no issues with the ice parts.

You must be lucky...even in the dome inside the enemy camp, when you get underground and the "accident" happens, frame rate drops as soon as the ice appears. As soon as I leave the dome, it goes back to normal.

Also depends on what res you are playing at....at high res, any ice causes a massive drop in framerates. What settings are you using?

These days Im running in 1280 with all settings to high, no special configs. When I first played through the game, I ran it at 22' native WS.
The only noticeable slowdown with the ice was when I was right at the dome wall, other then that, I didn't have any problems.
Even when I first exited the ship, the lack of leaves or movable objects seemed to run the game smooth as ever.

Guys for the n'th time it's not about what framerate Crysis runs at what resolution in which machine. It's the fact that they displayed a _different_ product than delivered. They displayed what was called DX10 effects with the promise that DX10 capable hardware would run Crysis as showcased. It didn't. It doesn't. It never will it seems.

Crysis looks good. Not stunning. The showcase was stunning. Too bad the product isn't what they promised.

Why don't you crysis apologists just cut to the chase and say, back in the stone age, we just had rocks, therefore be happy that we get this performance with crysis. it would shut everyone up! :rolleyes:
I only brought up normal performance in the past because someone else mentioned that they used to think of 80FPS as being standard. I agree that it's not relevant and that's exactly what I wanted to point out.

On another note, why don't you turn down the graphical settings if you think it's running slowly?

I have a 3700+. 1Gb and an 8800GTS and I would like to be able to play the game at 19x12 with everyting at the highest setting, and get 100fps framerates. Or else the game sucks and COD RULEZ!

:rolleyes:

That's pretty much where discussion of this game has gone. Every thread gets derailed and sucked into the exact same issue. IBTL

Because the PC used in the [H] review was that shitty. The only thing worse than the performance of this game is the people that defend it with comments like that.

Back to the topic, its going on 1 month and a week and no patch... and the game is dying out (please spare me your "I play it everyday" crap). Even www.incrysis.com is going downhill, with half the topics closed and people being banned from being upset with the game.

By the ice part, you mean the level "Paradise Lost" right? My settings were 1280x720 all settings Very High. I also went to the nvidia control panel, made sure AF was off, Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization: On, Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Allow, Texture filtering - Quality: Quality, and Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization: On. Those were some notable changes that helped improve my framerate. Probably hovered around 18 fps or so. This is considered very playable by my standards, but I guess I'm not too bent on getting 30+ fps at the given settings.

With everything on Very High except Shaders at high and shadows at medium at 1280x768 res I get 25fps average. It honestly looks significantly worse than COD4 at that point. The game is a mess, half the time different story cue's don't occur, and many other problems. AI bugs where they literally won't see you uncloaked, etc. Its unplayable. Sure, if you have a low standard for the game then you could force your way through it, but I plan on waiting until I can enjoy it so I don't get sick of it before I can max it out. Of course that looks like it will be a while, if a patch they claimed would take 7-14 days is taking a month and a half.

Did you write this with a straight face ? Or were you laughing all the time ? Because to say that Crysis, with almost everything set to very high and one or two at high / medium, looks worse than CoD4, must be a joke...

I'm not even going to comment on the game's bugs, since I never experienced them, but the game has bugs no doubt. Every game has them...
But as to what graphics are concerned, you really must be joking in saying what you did. CoD 4 looking better than Crysis, with Crysis set to mostly very high settings...:rolleyes: that's a big LOL

I have a confession to make...

I hated crysis, hated the demo, hated it all, the fact that it runs like crap, etc...got it from a friend as an early xmas gift, installed it...

I am loving it, it runs great (at least IMO) on my box, 1680*1050, everything high, aa*2, averaging over 25fps....and I am loving it

going and doing a stealth approach, and I'm at the part where you get to the excevation site...

only 1 issue, game unreleated, I was using fraps last night and after a good 3 hours, quit the game, and windows was complaining about lack of disk space...160MB left :confused: turns out I had been taping my playing from the first minute...deleted them all, 70GB worth of footage :D:D:D

Try that at 1920x1200, ice WILL cause 30 to 50 percent drop in framerates.

If you read further, I stated that I originally played the game in 1680x1050 with no issues what so ever. Your 50% number came from where?

Cant say im suprised, why did they have to open their mouths before when they said about 2 weeks its gonna be out.. yeah right they are starting to be valve giving dates and cant follow them..:confused:

Yah, its nothing out of the ordinary these days.

I still don't see how you can say that 30+ FPS average on HIGH with an 8800GT, GTX, Ultra at a res of 1600x1200 is anything but remarkable in a game that graphically makes everything else out there look 1-2 years dated. :confused::rolleyes:

You're using a goofy custom config that honestly makes parts of the game look like poo :p those of us not running someone's hack aren't getting anywhere near that performance, especially if we have an AMD chip.

At 1152x864, everything on medium, I drop to 20 fps or lower in some outdoor parts. It's unplayable. With mixed medium/hi, I'm easily in the low teens, and it's impossible, not to mention no longer fun, to play.

I don't have a problem with this: I grew up in gaming used to 4+ minute load times for every mission with Wing Commander 3 on my 486, and having to spend hours tweaking config.sys and autoexec.bat files to get more memory free. but, I also didn't PLAY WC3 for 2+ years after it came out, even though I had it: I waited till I had the hardware to play it properly. WC3 was compelling enough to make me at least try to play it though, and even cheat my way through to enjoy the story before it was playable :)

There's nothing compelling enough about crysis to play it at 800x600 to get playable frame rates. If I knew the SS button, I'd show you what I get.

Exactly. I think a lot of the people here never even had to deal with Quake 1 or any of the classics. Textures weren't even filtered and no one complained!

Even when the first Quake 3 and UT came out, I could barely play them at 320x240 and I was still impressed by them. Years later we could get over 300fps. People just aren't being realistic.

you don't have a single SS from an actual gameplay moment: Take some with enemies around, actually playing the game, not just points in the level or scripted instants.

I can get close to 30fps, 1600x1200, everything on very high at certain points (even in assault crysis!) of the level, away from enemies and everything else.

In actual gameplay, that drops to 8fps, with things going on around me. If even.

I on the other hand have posted actual screenshots with multiple enemies on screen, lots of action going on, (every single one of them firing at me and me firing back), a house collapsing during this exchange, and framerates remained nearly constant throughout the entire sequence.

Here, have a look for yourself.

By all accounts, I am getting 4 times the performance you are "with things going on around me."

never said you didn't. you just run 1, a massively overclocked system in every aspect, and 2, a custom config that sacrifices visual quality in some areas that drives me nuts. I've always thought your config looked pretty bad compared to normal high settings. At least from my looks at my screen.

You're really the only person getting performance like that provable though. [H] review agrees with what most of us see: Certain levels especially are unplayable.

:confused::confused:

You are grossly mistaken, couldn't be more wrong in fact.

1. My settings are ALL HIGH, except for Shadows and Post-Processing, which are set to medium.

2. My custom config only consists of 6 lines, all of which are settings to make it look even better, not worse.

EdgeeAA
Sunshafts
XY_view_distance
Water tesselation
and (occassionally) parallax occlusion mapping

are all I have tweaked in my system.cfg file, and that is only to enable them and/or increase them from their defaults.

I think you are seeing what you want to see.

That's all High, with the aforementioned settings enabled (POM is off in those screenshots), and 16x AF is enabled as well for that matter.

That just happens to be a rather open area of the game, and I am also taking damage in a few of those shots, so it looks blurred.

Ive posted other SS's before, and have had about a half dozen PM's noting how good it looks, and people wanting my custom .cfg file.

I don't know why you are arguing so fervently in defense of Crysis or Crytek. The topic says that we're looking for a patch that was promised. If we have a problem with it, so be it; we do. If you don't, that's too bad; you should have never even come into this thread.

Second, your screenshots look like a**. Sorry, but we're supposed to take your word for it? I can make any number of screenies and then say that they are at settings that they truly are not. With those settings you are claiming, my Crysis looks far more different and detailed. As a matter of fact, while I'm at it, I'll admit that I'm running an 8800GTS, but that's besides the point. I played the game, enjoyed it (except the ending), but what everyone here is claiming is absolutely CORRECT. There are some parts in the game where one setting will work and another where it will not. Point in case: The entire first 1/3 of the game I played on Very High settings. The next 1/3 I had to lower to Medium, and then as soon as the ice/snow started showing, I had to lower EVERYTHING to Low. This screams UNOPTIMIZED. For no reason at all, I had to lower settings. I can guarantee you that vegetation requires more graphics horsepower than ice/snow does.

So regardless of how many FPS you are getting on YOUR rig, you're in the mass minority. Can it and keep it to yourself. You had no place in this thread to begin with. We're looking for a patch and whatever good it may contain. We've a right to complain and bitch about it; we paid for the damn game. I frankly don't see any uneducated or dumb people making frivolous/unsubstantiated claims about having problems with the game, so their arguments stand.

you were originally posting in one of the custom config threads, namely Cuban's. My bad. Cuban's config looks like total shit, so I assumed you were still using it.

Either way, you're still an extreme statistical anomaly. If I have more than one guy on the screen in many places, especially outside, I'm in the low-20fps range, with everything on medium, at 1152x864, let alone 1600x1200 or anything reasonable. The [H] review shows this. who knows why it runs well on your system: It doesn't run well on most of ours, and that's honestly all I care about.

The game is pretty boring and underperforms. I'll wait till they patch it or hardware catches up a bit, and then play the rest to see the pretty pictures. Till then, I'll play games that look almost as good and run far better.

Anyone for some COD4? TF2?

edit: Aren't you also running 32bit DX9?

You have got to be kidding me.

Take screenshots from that EXACT same spot (first level) on HIGH with shadows and Post-processing set to Medium.

I guarantee you it will look even worse than what I have because I have even gone the extra step to enable a few other DX10-esque features on top of the HIGH settings.

I doubt Im a statistical anomaly, as I have posted about half a dozen different reviews/benchmarks from reputable sites who have tested with hardware similar to mine and can in fact mimic my results.

And no, I'm running the 64bit DX9 version, in Vista X64.

I just finished installing it under XP X86 today (dual boot), and I usually get 2-3 FPS more on average compared to Vista X64, but the SS's posted are the 64bit DX9 ones from Vista.

a single bar about a massively overclocked box with watercooling isn't proof. find a gameplay evaluation and graph and then we'll talk. Especially one that ISNT the demo, which runs totally different than the retail code. And on a real level, like Assault_crysis or Relic_crysis, not just out in the open on the first level. Hell, I can do the first level or demo at 1600x1200 all high too.

But the demo isn't the game. Neither is the first level the game.

And like I thought, you ARE running DX9. Try it in DX10.

With all due respect to the rules here at [H] and the mods keeping this place going, you ajm786, can blow it out your ass.
This isn't your topic so I don't see where you get off telling anyone that they don't belong in a thread.
You think that a thread talking about a patch is a free for all to bash a game, if so, then its just as much a free for all for us to defend it.

You seem to have some personal thing against Crysis and anyone who runs it fine.
I have a slower system then you and yet the game run and looks great for me...Perhaps you just can't run a machine worth a damm. Numerous people in this thread have said the same things about Crysis working fine, and yet you crap on it about hacks or whatnot.
Some are saying it runs and looks like shit, dropping X many frames when doing this or that and some of us, are simply pointing out that its not always the case.

Considering that this other guy was posting screen, frames, config and whatnot, and yet you offer up no proof to support your claims.

Im not saying Crysis doesn't run bad on some systems, and Im not here to contest the claims of poor performance, myself and some others are simply stating that its not always the case. Im a guy with an average system who hasnt done anything fancy, I dont have low standards and I run the game fine and it looks great.

No offense or anything, but this is a public forum and you have no right to tell anyone what they can and cannot post.
Now, you'll have to excuse me while I crack open a painfully expensive bottle of champagne to celebrate the start of my long weekend.
Happy Holidays

Happy holidays! Save me some of that champagne.

And on a real level, like Assault_crysis or Relic_crysis, not just out in the open on the first level.

And like I thought, you ARE running DX9. Try it in DX10.
I'm running it in DX9 also. Just because I'm not stupid enough to run it in a mode that looks the same and runs much slower means there's something wrong with me? I can use Very High settings in Windows XP at better frame rates...so why wouldn't I?

Also, I didn't have enough time to play this game a lot, but if you or someone could send me saved games from the start of every level, I'll gladly take screenshots from there with High or mixed High/Very High settings to give you an idea of how it runs.

Oh and to my knowledge, the ice parts are probably slow simply because ice/snow use different shaders - most likely reflective ones - so it would make sense to run slower. Also, don't leaves and things shatter when frozen? I'm sure that affects performance also.

I'm running it as shipped: One shouldn't (imo) have to throw commadn line flags at something to make it play well anymore, but after fiddling with things forever, I guess I should expect it still. The whole DX9/DX10 config hacks is a whole different beast though: I expect you'll find all of us with performance problems are those of us running it as-shipped, where it forces to DX10 mode without some fiddling.

I can get you saves, I expect. I think I still have them backed up.

Ice is not reflective.

a) Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT run it in DX10 mode.
That's when the game runs like crap. Even I will be quick to admit that, and won't bother defending it.

On the other hand, I am just as quick to defend the fact that for those of us such as myself (and apparently Droc and Frozen to name a few), DX9 mode runs great.

b) The ice isn't really reflective per se, as you alluded to, but it does glisten.

forward me your custom cfg: carmichp AT colorado.edu

I'm going to do a direct comparison on my 8800gt. DX10 vs DX9. I have a feeling most of us with poor performance are running in DX10 mode.

The first level ran great for me but I didn't see much more than 20-25fps for the rest of the game on medium high at 1280x1024 on XP. At the very least they could work on making the performance more consistent.

It defaults to DX10 in Vista, so that could be the reason why many people are unkowingly complaining...oblivious to this fact perhaps.

As for my config, it's nothing elegant or elaborate, so no need to email it, I'll post it right here in fact.

Running it in:
Vista X64 (64 bit mode) under DX9 as well as XP (32 bit mode) in DX9 as well of course.
All settings set to HIGH, except for Shadows and Post-Processing, those are set to MEDIUM (after exiting out of the game and back in, Shadows and Post-Processing appear as "CUSTOM" due to the settings in my .cfg file below).
Res = 1600x1200
AF = 16x
VSync = OFF
64bit DX9

My system.cfg file reads:

con_restricted=0
r_useedgeaa=2
r_sunshafts=1
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy=4096
e_water_ocean_fft=1
e_water_tesselation_amount=10
r_usepom=1 (usually set this to 0 through the console in-game, but leave it on during parts that do it justice)

Nothing magical :p
Nothing necessarily spectacular either.
Basically changed:
a) the waves by making them more salient through tesselation
b) the detail on distance textures -- they are sharper now
c) added sunshafts (an otherwise DX10 feature)
d) added edgeAA, which is virtually free performance wise, and clears up a LOT of things, including spotty foliage
e) occassionally use parallax occlussion mapping in certain parts of the game

That's it really.

I'm not going to resort to personal attacks like you have just done. It's quite incompetent. Neither am I going to defend my experience in this field; some people just don't get that others have been working in it longer than they have been alive. :rolleyes:

Like lopoetve said, I'm quite sure Hamidxa is a statistical anomaly. Everyone I've seen, including friends of mine, have something to complain about the game's performance. I didn't bash the game once, I'm looking for a patch to give me a better experience than I already have.

And lay off the foul language while you're at it will you? It's a game for crying out loud. :rolleyes:
