Where is this R600?

if you have it, you dont need it
if you need it, you dont have it
if you have it, you need more of it
if you have more of it, you dont need less of it
you need it to get it, and you certainly need to get more of it
but if you don't already have any of it to begin with,
you cant get any of it to get started which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place, do you?
you can share it, sure
you can even stock pile it if you like
but you cant fake it
wanting it
needing it
wishing for it
the point is, if you never had any of it, ever
people just seem to know

Can you feel it, see it, hear it today?
If you can't then it doesn't matter anyway
You will never understand it 'cuz it happens to fast, feels so good it's like walkin' on glass
It's so cool, it's so hip, it's alright
It's so groovin' shit's outta sight
You can touch it, smell it, taste it so sweet
But it makes no difference 'cuz it knocks you off your feet SAY!

You want it all but you can't have it...

You might want to quote where that is from so it doesn't look like you are taking credit.

In case you were wondering where this came from

When the R600 is finally released, and you see it on the shelf at Fry's, be sure to "say the words" before you take it. :D

i wonder if the reason they didn't mention anything about DX9 performance is due to them having it locked down so much people wouldn't give it much thought, alot of people want these for their DX10 aspects 1st, and their blazing fast DX9 performance 2nd. Seeing that DX9 performance is already dominated on previous cards, these cards taking it to the next level would be a given, saying that I'm sure ATI/AMD wants to concentrate more on their DX10 aspect offering then something that is being completely obliterated at the moment...

hmm... makes you wonder why they would brag about a 5-10% difference, alot of times even enthusiasts just use that margin to boast but doesn't really bring anything to the table that would make the other look bad, I wonder if they are having problems with IQ, such as new AA support and AF as well? hmmm....

Here's hoping the 5-10% claim is without IQ processing maxxed (AA etc). With 150GB/s bandwidth ATI must have something planned to make use of it.

There's no way of knowing exactly what the source of that information was. And not knowing what the DX10 test was it's hard to determing performance. I highly doubt they're having problems with IQ. You could very well be looking at a worst case scenario for R600 in whatever they ran there.

It's quite possible that was a test using some DX10 feature and not involving any AA/AF. With all the bandwidth R600 has it's highly likely that it's geared towards really high levels of AA/AF. So you could run 4xAA or higher with a very minimal performance hit. Sort of a free AA/AF if you will.

Is the 9" retail version still going to be the XTX version? Hopefully the cooler won't take up 3 more inches because i saw an image on vr-zone that showed a huge fan pertruding from the card.

The one with the fan on the end was probably the 12" one. The difference between XT and XTX will likely be very minimal again. Throw on some better cooling and there's no reason one of the shorter XT's couldn't easily surpass the XTX. Heck the X probably now stands for eXtended.

He's saying that he bought an x1950pro from Best Buy to tide him over until R600 is available at which point he will return the x1950pro for a full refund. He's basically screwing Best Buy so he has a nice gpu until R600 is out.

F Best Buy. And thats from an employee. Check newegg's price, then check the markup on the videocard. Then you'll feel much less morally indebted.

BTW yea that's the old spice commercial lol

I just want the R600 released so the price of DX10 cards start to drop. I'm not a !!!!!! of either. Not a !!!!!! of any one manufacturer for anything. Best bang for my buck is my motto.

I remember monochrome, cga, ega, vga, super - vga.. agh.. those are the days.. Taking computer class, playing comander keen, f-19 Stealth, and A - 10, playing with wildcat BBS.. agh.. and getting the 3.5 floppies for a new 95 install...

Commander Keen and Carmen Sandiego FTW

via torrents, I have the commander keen series.. If anybody wants to go very old school, hit me and I'll send them to ya... Back to the point.. I too am waiting for the R600 to come out, in order to make my upgrade choice, and after that then my choice in motherboards (SLI vs. Crossfire). Yes, it's difficult to wait, especially with the 8800's out, but it's getting closer.. :::sigh:::

Looking at this news post in our forum, there is a rumor coming out from the websites in China currently that AMD is planning to launch R600 on 8th or 9th March and be officially named as Radeon X2K series. The mass production silicon is expected to be still at A12 for the R600 cards at launch.

It seems like ATi has successfully taped out a A15 silicon that is able to work at 1GHz probably we can hope to see another series of R600 cards with higher working clocks in the near future. The article suggests ATi's next generation R680 is scheduled for Q3 launch but suggested that NVIDIA will have G81 and the next gen. GPU ready to compete.

According to our sources but still a rumor revealed R600 as X2800 series. There are 2 variants for XTX; 1GB and 512MB. X2800XTX runs at 750MHz core, 2.2GHz memory, 512-bit memory interface and GDDR4 while XT runs at 600MHz core, 1.8GHz memory, 512-bit memory interface and GDDR3.

I sure hope the 8th of March launch date is true, Cebit seems soooooo far away!

ps, wasn't the R600 originally supposed to launch around this time?

Hey, they're essentially getting a free loan for a month, and the card will just end up being sent back to ATI, so ATI is footing the bill - which they wouldnt have to if they had released the R600 on time D:<

Actually, we have to sell the returned items if they still work for 10-50% off so you ARE screwing best buy over.

P.S. We dont give cash refunds on used electronics, and its 14 days for video cards, not 30. Got your shades bish!

AHAHAHA...
dude, you should have waited 9 more days to drop the info:p

Um, there's no way you work for Best Buy and if you do, you should be fired for giving false information. Video cards are 30 day return, the only things that are 14 days are things like computers, laptops, cameras, radar detectors. And anything you return within the period, whether it's open or not gets you a refund the same way you paid.

Wow, that sucks. No GDDR4 version for us consumers?

I thought the XTX and XT versions will have GDDR4 and only the lowest X2800 (GT?) will have GDDR3.

it doesnt say video cards have a 30 day return policy, matter of fact, it doesn't specifically mention every product, they gave a generalized idea, items like those mentioned are quite similiar to a video card, since computers, laptops, etc...are in the same category

Restocking fee
A restocking fee of 15% will be charged on opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS/navigation and in-car video systems unless defective or prohibited by law. A restocking fee of 25% will be charged on Special Order Products, including appliances unless defective or prohibited by law.

if nothing else he may end up being docked the 15% restocking fee......at any rate it's dishonest

I *DID* work for best buy and we are not supposed to give any refunds of any type on opened video cards, just an exchange for the same model. This isn't how it works most of the time because most of the employees dont give a sh*t like myself.

I don't know why people think Best Buy is such a great place to work for and a good employer. I cant remember how many computer I've fried on purpose just beause the managers didn't want them on display anymore.

How is this for a great store, 3 weeks before i quit a man went into cardiac arrest, we had 4 AED's on site but he died. Why you ask, because someone forgot to put the batteries in them.

QuakeCon 2003: I purchased the nvidia FX series video card that BFG had a coupon for at a Dallas BB store.

I drove back to Tulsa and saw that the cards were $100 cheaper there. So I take mine in with the original reciept (box was opened) and I got a full refund and saved $100 more.

Point is, I still got a refund on an opened video card.

I did too, but this new info seems to state that the XT is only GDDR3...

Oh, and just if people weren't aware, I measured my x1950 XTX last night, and it's 9 inches long (give or take an eigth or two). So don't worry about the length; only the 12-inch OEM beast you need to worry about, but it's OEM. It'll still be shorter than the 8800's.
