I got my 7900GTX from my XFX RMA today. Im wondering if its too much power, or not worth having for my setup and what I use it for. I ONLY play BF2 @ 1680x1050 on my VX2025WM at all high and maybe CS:S @ 1680x1050 like once a month. Would downgrading to an X1800XT 512 or a 7900GTX be a good choice? Or a bad one....I could use the money towards an LCD TV i'm eyeing...

Specs:
P-D 805 @ 3.6 (20x180)
2x1GB OCZ Plat. PC2-6400 @ DDR2-600 12-3-4-3
Abit LG-81
XFi
36GB 00FLC0 Raptor

dont quite get your question, your asking where in your rig is the problem? your playing those games at those settings and your getting terrible FPS?

and the second question, downgrading from a 7900GTX to an X1800XT 512 would not help, IMHO.

it could be the Pentium 805, overclockings great and all but it could just be unstable, might try bumping up the voltage.

and it might be the power in general. lots of highperformance ram, a voltmodded CPU, a power hungry hard drive, and a power hungry graphics card? psu might not be able to keep up, but generally you get alarms and just a completely non-cooperative system when thats the case, not just bad FPS.

that is im asuming you are getting Bad FPS. again i dont understand your post....

edit: OHHH your stoned, that explains it....

haha. all im asking is if the 7900GTX is overkill and if a 7900gt or x1800xt 512 would serve me just fine in its place in those game at that res with those specs...i dont know why i named the title that

no graphic card is overkill at the mo. yes if your screen limis you then do it but that is one card you should hold. Man that card is too good.

Its too good , what size monitor are you going to buy ?
I have a 21"CRT , cheap and gives you res at 1800 so for me its not overkill. Buy a crt , you can pick them up for about £50 and you wont have to sell your card, if anything you should later add another one in.

He already has a 20" widescreen, as he said in his OP.

If you feel like its overkill, downgrade. I felt like my 7800GT was overkill (as was the rest of that system) so i downgraded back to a P4C and 6800GT, its fine for what i use it for.

acually you lot will be able to upgrade to Conroe quicker than i.

You lot thought it over.

I can go Quad or FX ,which is not that bad but conroe would feel better.

I'd get the X1800XT 512. For the money you'd make off of downgrading it'd make the performance loss negligible.

wait, are you buying a 7900GTX. I thought you said you got it back from XFX's RMA department? An X1800XT is going to cost a little less than the 7900s, and it'll support your res (the 512Mb Version), so i think if you're buying a new card or something, an X1800XT would be good, although your 7900GTX would beat that X1800XT by a bit (performance wise)

I'd stick with what you got. You probably won't make that much money off selling your card and getting a lower one to make it worth the effort. Just work some overtime or something to come up with the money elsewhere.

sorry but i just have to say it. Le bottleneck means "the bottleneck" in french.

point? He's wondering if his system is bottlenecking his card enough to warrant a downgrade.
