where does XP store icons?

[AceTKK]

I want to create some custom icons for folders, apps, etc. Where does WindowsXP look for these images to use for the icon? If I go to properties for an individual file I can select an icon to use, how do I make my own custom icon available for selection?

Thanks,

If i recall the system icons are stored in C:\Winnt\System32 or C:\Winnt\System

if they're there I sure can't find them. Can anyone provide a specific path for me?

thanks,

some of them are in

<windows_directory>\system32\SHELL32.dll

Start | search *.ico ?

dll's and exe's can store icons within themeselves, they wouldn't show up by looking for ico files

I believe reshacker is necessary for most of the icons..I forget what you're supposed to open to get them though. Maybe ntoskrnl.exe?
