do keyboard signals (pressing any key) go throu the processor first, or the rams?

because when my CPU usage is over 15% or so, I start to lag. whenever i press any key, I'll have 1 or 3 secs lag. however, i get no lag if I use my mouse. no lag to open anything with mouse. it's as if my keyboard is lagging the whole system whenever I use it.

i'm not sure why. I think it's either:
1) speedstep.
2) my 16gb ram cards are set to lowest (666mhz or something) - they are rated 1600mhz.
3) I'm using the Microsoft keyboard application for my keyboard

Since I plan to OC with proper settings, I'm testing my PC with stock settings to make sure that everything is perfectly stable before I start OCing.

specs: i7 2600k, asus p67 pro board, 16gb g.skill ram cards, 650w corsair and xfx HD6970

Thanks in advance!

It goes to the MCP if I'm not mistaken. Do you have a graphics driver installed?

Uninstall that keyboard applications and give it a go

Of course I have installed the graphic card drivers for my HD6970. But how can my video card affect the lag problem? Well, I'm not sure if my BIOs are using the video card, not the onboard one. Last time I checked, I couldn't find the option

I'll uninstall the keyboard app and see what happens.

you might look at the device causing the lag drivers. I know there was the dx bandwidth issue with some of the mouse drivers also causing a lag. So ill look at the keyboard and mouse drivers.

uninstalling the keyboard didn't fix it. disabling speedstep also didn't fix it. I don't understand why would I lag when i use the keyboard and that my CPU usage is 20%

to clarify, no lag from the keyboard when my CPU usage is like 1%. but when it's 15% or so, the keyboard lags the whole syste
whenever I use it

Get a different keyboard. Seriously. No reason for this. Which keyboard are you using currently? What mouse? I assume this is a new install of Windows 7? We know you've installed Catalyst for your GPU, what other drivers have been installed?

Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 Intelli Type Pro

some Microsoft wireless mouse.

yes w7 64 bit.

mobo drivers.

what else? idk I used windows update to install most drivers

remove any MS software / drivers for the keyboard, i believe that keyboard has MS software that goes with it, you dont need it if it is installed.

Ohh, actually!

I was wrong about how my pc starts lagging.
When my CPU is processing stuff (e.g. 15% usage), my keyboard doesn't lag the PC at all. so it's all good. BUT if/when I press CTRL + ALT + DEL then the keyboard will trigger the PC lag. After when the task manager is opened, my pc will lag everytime when I use the keyboard. the lag ain't gone when l close the task manager.

I've checked the hotkey features (e.g. sticky hotkeys) and they are all off.

This is weird, if I never pressed CTRL + ALT + DEL, everything is fine.

hold on, I think I know of a link to help you. give me a sec to find it....

**EDIT** found this thread the other day, and learned something new! http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=340401

Hmm, I'm really not sure if it's a microshutter. My pc doesn't lag as long as I never press CTRL DEL ALT or even press any keyboard key after using the CTRL command.

I've noticed that everytime when I open the task manager (ctrl alt del), my CPU usage will spike to like 40% from 20% and then goes back to 20% again. Maybe that's why? Although, during multi-tasking I've had opened programs that also spike CPU usage at first... without any lag from the keyboard. Still doesn't make sense...

Your 7 install may have not gone well. What media did you use? DVD? Install from a USB stick? Make sure there are no scratches if it was from a disc, and if possible try with a different DVD-ROM drive. I presume you haven't had much chance to install a lot of programs yet since this seems to be a new build, so if it's a bad install now is the time to format and try again, not later.

I installed 7 from a USB stick.
BTW the installation of W7 won't be successful if it had bad or corrupted things. The installation uses CRC checks.
I don't have any other keyboard. I don't have any friend that I can borrow an ancient keyboard from.
If if if I press CTRL ALT DEL after 20% CPU usage or so, it will trigger the keyboard lag.
If if if I never pressed CTRL ALT DEL after 20% CPU usage or so, everything will be fine - no keyboard lag.

I don't think my keyboard is the problem.

Oh, I've tried that 'disabling CPU parking' method but it still doesn't fix the problem.

Does anybody know which process from Task Manage deals with keyboard signals? Maybe I can try changing the speed of that process to higher. Worth a try...

Is my situation a rare one? CTRL DEL ALT triggering the keyboard lag.... very strange.
