My problem is very simple. I have a stereo speaker and a stereo headphone.
I am looking for a device like the one in the picture. I want to be able to easily switch between my speaker and my headphone, without changing cables.

What is the name of such a device?
What kind of brand / model do you guys recommend?
How much will it cost?

Thanks,
Simps

A simple splitter? Is your drawing correct? Don't you want the output from your sound card or do you really want an amp to output audio to the line-in of your sound card?

If the splitter is what you want, you can find the appropriate cheap cables.

A cable splitter will cause power reduction to both outputs as the card will be running both of them in parallel.

This switch (this too) is what you are looking for. It will let you flip between the two without any problems.

I think the drawing is wrong, speakers and your headphones are output devices, they receive sound signals from the card. the drawing makes it seem as if you are somehow sending signals from your headphones into the card lol.

also the switch that daishknyte listed is perfect for your listed stereo needs. markertek is a fantastic website.

He wants a switch which Ratshack sells for about ten bucks, or the Source if you are in Canada. If you just use a splitter cable and both devices are on it increases the impedance.
I tried that and the volume I was getting was greatly reduced, but that only happens if both devices you are outputting to are on at the same time.

Yea, he has output and input labeled wrong.

What speakers do you have? If its a receiver + speaker combo I'd just the receiver headphone output.

My assumption would've been that the speakers are power driven with a separate power source that could be powered down.

Still.. a powered "splitter" device to switch to different audio outputs is still "simple" to me. :p
