When will the vid card shortage end?

I've had my 6800GT PCI-E on backorder for 21 days now. Anyone have any idea why theres such a shortage of PCI-E 6800's? They can sure make the crap out of 6600GT's and AGP 6800's now.

Also if anyone knows where I can get one let me know. This waiting is driving me insane.
 
the PCI-E 6800 hasnt really been out all that long. I mean when the 6800's first came out they were tough to get ahold of. And look at the x800xt PE that damn thing is still preatty much MIA, save for a few lucky people who want to fork over the dough to get one. 21 days does suck but like with any new thing it takes a little to saturate the market with the product.
BTW where do you have it on order from?

I got a PCIe 6800GT from chumbo. Pre-ordering stuff isnt worth it. Right place right time is the only thing that works.
 
Well I've actually done this song and dance twice. I did it at Atacom.com, until I found out they weren't in stock and had no ETA. I went with GameVE this time because they had an ETA. Today is supposed to be the ship date and so far nothing. What concerns me is the eVGA Geforce 6800 PCI-Express has been removed from their product listing entirely.

They tried to get me to switch to an XFX about a week or so ago and I decided to hold out. XFX scares me. Too many horror stories for me. For a $200 card I'd risk it, but not for one that's $400+.

Another reason I went with GameVE is because they aren't price gouging as bad as everyone else seems to be. Thier a large website and although I've never purchased from them before, they seem to be reputable.

I have been thinking about cancelling my order and getting inline at Chumbo.com, for the BFG card because they aren't price gouging at all. The cards sell for MSRP.

I've been running with this 6600GT for awhile now and I can't stand it. It's ok and all but when your used to gaming at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16X AF on 21 inch monitor, you tend to get spoiled. If there was a PCI-E SLi board for Pentium 4's that was available or even announced other than that damn Gigabyte one that only has DDR 1 support, I'd probably be content for now with a SLi 6600GT setup. Then when the 6800's became more available I'd switch them out.

But alas that's not the case.
 
LOL 21 days :p I've been waiting since August for my X800 XT PE (no offense to you). This shortage is ridiculous.. we can only hope it does end soon.

Pre-ordering and backordering aren't the same thing. Pre-order implies the part hasn't been released and hasn't come out. Backordering is for something that's out in the market, but is in shorter supply.

If I pre-ordered I'd be more pissed, as I would EXPECT to get my card on the release date.

This shortage is kicking my ass.

Well, I ordered mine through a friend on ATI's site, and he gets a slight discount. That's the only real reason why I haven't simply picked up an X800 from a retail store or online store. *sigh* This discount better be worth the wait..
 
i was waiting forever, but did the notify thing on newegg and should be getting my asus x800 xt pe tomorrow. been a mac guy for the last 2 years, been looking to build a gaming rig since doom3 came out. should be a fun new years.

Either way... I got mine. I just hope you aren't tied to someone or they have your money already. I wouldn't doubt chumbo won't get them again before others. People say they're tied in with BFG.
 
No one's got my money yet. I am not tied to anything. GameVE says I'll get it next week. I just got off the phone with them.
