When will the 850's hit shelves?????

anyone seen any hard dates? I bought a 800pro and have until 1-8-05 to return it to Compusa. I was hoping the 850 would be out soon so I could grab one instead of my 800pro

Nope no dates known for sure. Late December, early January, hopefully. You can always pre-order. Return in on the 7th and wait it out. ;)
 
i called ati and they said that not until at least january .. that is from preordering from them
 
Maybe by the X850's hitting the shelves in January, it will drive the prices down on the ever-elusive and wildly overpriced X800XT PE's...

I would not count on that. Also being that the 850's are PCI-E only X800 XT PE is still ATI's fastest AGP card.

My 9800Pro is still doing a fine job, but I'm starting to get the itch..... I am going to try to hold out until the prices become more reasonable. I've got the money for it, but it pisses me off to buy hardware that I know isn't worth such a high cost.

I bought my 9800Pro when it first came out for 465.00 on Newegg. Now you can snatch one for under 200.00 !!!!

That's the way the game goes, unfortunately for those of us who are prone to the bleeding edge. :p :p

True but find a real cheap 9800 XT.....

Top end cards don't tend to drop in price they just tend to just disappear.

Also hard to find cards make this even more of the fact. MSRP on the X800 XT PE is 499.00 but they are impossible to find and are demanding huge prices.

Use the hard to find FX5800 NV "released" a few years back. They never became cheap or common. They just disappeared....and were replaced by a newer faster card. I guess you could find a used one cheap on Ebay but that is a different disscusion.
