i am looking for a new btx case to put my gateway 820gm's motherboard in. all i can find are those huge server-like tower from coolermaster, the new lian li pc 767, and the CM stacker that can be transformed into a btx case. when will btx cases become more avaible, say from antec?

thanks

Judging from the last couple of trade shows I would say in a couple of years. I would suggest building your own case in the meantime.

when hell freezes over and is promptly thawed by the heat from atx case's exhaust fans.

seriously, I think right now your choices are pretty much full tower or baby desktop (with some SFF like shuttle building a couple as well).
And I wouldn't be sitting around waiting for BTX to storm the mid tower market.

I don't have a time frame, beyond not soon. A couple of years before BTX becomes reasonably mainstream and standard; but until you'll be able to buy a good quality mid tower - no idea.

Honestly bud, by the time BTX becomes the DEFACTO standard, you will easily be able to build 2 more ATX specc computers, AMD has stated SEVERAL times they see no reason to do BTX and its just Intel trying to cover up their prescrapp mistake as a result.

Build a nice ATX machine and don't worry about it.

msi made a btx amd mobo

I read a review of a BTX board somewhere. I think the reviewer was saying within a couple of months. Go to goggle and search for BTX review (might have been overclockers.com or overclockers.com.au). As for Antec rep, go to the antec website and ask in support.

so should i wait, for you guys saying years obviously not, or just buy the lian li pc 767?

i like that case but cannot find any info on it besides lian li website. its new, so just wait for reviews and purchase it if it is ok?

thanks

alright will do thanks for ur support :)

Chicken and egg problem. The mobo makers want more BTX cases, the case makers want more BTX mobos. Only Intel can crack this problem. They have the power to drive the market in new directions (PCI Express, USB 2.0, etc) If Intel stops producing ATX mobos, then the adoption of BTX will accelerate nicely. Until then, nobody wants to throw down bucks on it.

It's too expensive for companies to change over to BTX. Intel is what started it, because of their hot arse cpu's, but since AMD has been able to keep cpu's cool and also continue pushing ahead with speed, these companies are basically giving Intel the finger and saying, " no, amd is keeping things fine the way they are- YOU guys make changes, we aren't"

Then what was Intel's reasoning when they came out with ATX?

ATX was developed as a standard by the industry Intel didn't come up with it. Intel did adopt it rather quickly which helped. BTX on the other hand was created by Intel and is not a real standard.
