I think that the last real "virus" that i had was back in 1999, and had to end up trashing the HDD because somehow it got into the MBR and i could not get it out no matter how hard i tried. But the main problems i have seen are with spyware and what not. But where i work at we see probibly a virus a month infect on of the dumbass's computers.

I use to run Norton religously back in the day but one time i upgraded to a new version (Paid for it retail) and it would not let me "activate" it and wanted me to buy it again, and that was the last straw. Now i use AVG anti-virus and have had no problems with it personally. But i did install it on several computers at where i work instead of getting new McAfee licenses and have had update problems with it (ones that i could never duplicate on my machine) so its not the greatest program, but i thought i should share my experiances.

Anyways what about you guys, when was the last REAL virus you got actually infected by. I get the popup every how and then of "found virus" and it of course kills it before it even installs anything, but the last time you actually had it slip by you and infect your machine?

The last major virus I mistakenly installed was Windows ME.

I have never had a virus problem since I've started working in the computer field.

I had a floppy disk from my middle school that came infected with some virus, and that is the only time my comp had a virus, 9 years ago.

i don't know, for som rason the (lttr aftr 'd') ky isn't working...

...that and intrnt xplorr always turns off aftr fiftn sconds...

my friend came over because his ISP was being lame and he couldn't connect to the internet. So he came over and infected all my and my friends and my room mate's PC with some lame virus.. that was the second and last time i've had a virus on my PC. The first time was the cascade virus, coolest virus ever.

3 or 4yrs ago I believe, avg/avast/nod32 since then.

the first 4 or 5yrs i was on the net i used nothing

1 year ago - Web browser virus hijacked the browser and installed virus. I noticed the infecting page immediately due to the virus I had before. Reinstalled immediately.
3 years ago - Same thing as above, and ended up installing about 30 items on my desktop before I was able to notice it and remove 30 minutes later.
4 years ago - Got CodeRed at work. Some lawyer company called us and said to clean our machine. We musta hit their machines from our CodeRed.
15 years ago - Had something on my Amiga which changed all the titlebars on my windows to say something like "Soandso is a dickhead." Obviously made for someone they knew.

Thats about it for virus I caught.

Symantec Corporate (at home) occasionally blocks some SPAM with virii attached. I encounter tons of them when working on friends computers.

i use windows xp pro and i cant even remember the last time i had a virus :( i have seen lots of spyware try to get into my computer but no viruses...

In 10 years of actively using PC's I have never been infected with a virus.

To weeks ago. I got hit with a MSN Messenger Virus. Got it in my own stupidity some one sent me a file and then logged of right away and I clicked on it and guess what.

Get them occasionally at work, thanks to users who think anything emailed to them is business related and just open the attachment, combined with Norton's inability to stop a virus before it goes ahead and lets it infect the machine.

At home it's been many years, can't even remember what or when the last one I got was.

I can't really remember the last virus, I think it was about 3 or 4 years ago on my home pc.
I do spend an awful lot of time cleaning crap out of our work machines though..

last one I got at home, that was detected by my AV right away was the Michelangelo virus. It was included on the floppy from Intel for the diagnostic software of my 386sx math co-processor.

I sent Intel a thank you very much letter and they ended up sending me some mouse pads and other swag.

Around 92-93. Got a fish screensaver from a shareware catalog or something that turned out to be a virus. I don't think I've been infected since then. I ran TBAV for a few years(during my period of downloading everything I could), then nothing for a couple more years on windows until I switched to linux.

Never had one since my Win 95 days, but I have fixed a lot of other peoples computers that were full of them.

I think for the most the days of the traditional "virus" are almost over. They still exist in the form of worms and botnets or whatnot, however 90% of everything today is spyware which is esstential a virus. However the virus writers got smart and realized they could actualy make money by writing viri instead of just for fun/malice. Hence spyware was born.

i had one virus, about 7 yeras ago, it disabled my anti-v and wouldnt let me install any new stuff or use IE.

I've never had a virus that I recall but I've had a bits of spyware here and there. Nothing serious though. I removed it easily with Spybot. I use Avast AV, Windows Firewall and my router

Unintentionally? I have one spyware infection about 16 months ago. I thought I had already reinstalled my anti-spyware when I hadn't.

Intentionally? All the time. I find it entertaining to go browsing around the web with a virtual machine that's one year out of date on patches with no AV or anti-spyware installed to see what happens. Usually doesn't take long, especially if I leave it on the DMZ address for my router.

Keeps my removal skills up-to-date. :)

Never. I have never had a virus on my personal computer or any computer I was directly responsible for. But I don't look at porn or go to sites that have any chance of having crap on it.

Same here, I've only had some moderate at best spyware problems.

It has been years since I have been infected by a virus as the virus scanners stop them before they get loaded. I work as a consultant though and see people get them all the time(most of the time it is spyware now). I will say I hooked up my friends new out of box ipod the other day to copy some pictures to it from my machine so she could load them on her apple when she got home and it had a virus on it. Really fucked with me as it happened before apple came out and said that they shipped some with a virus on them. I saw SAV pop up and was like WTF?
