When to recommend watercooling?

Ok, so I'm going to be building a new system soon and I will be overclocking it. Is there a certain overclock frequency amount where I should do watercooling? When would you recommend it?

Would I be ok with a 3.0C and say if i'm lucky, at least a 600mhz overclock in a case with 6 fans and an aftermarket one on the cpu? What if I get really lucky and I can clock higher, when should I water cool?

I would either be using a p4c800 E or a Max 3. Haven't decided yet.

Help please!

You should watercool when your temps get too high for aircooling to handel. There really is no way to know if you'll need water cooling or not, some chips can overclock 600 mhZ with only getting one or two degrees above stock, when a seemingly identical chip can be 20 degrees above stock temps at the same speed.

I'd just try it first to see how temps go. You could try it with the stock cooler just to get a feel for how high the temps are going to go. You might get away with that kind of an overclock just on stock cooling. Or, it might be slightly high, and you might have to upgrade your air cooling. Or it may be center-of-the-sun hot, and you'll want to get watercooling

cool, thanks. I think it would be cool to watercool because it looks fun, but when i get my new system, i'm only going to do air cooling at first so it may be a while before I go water.

yeah, i was thinking 6 case fans and something reallly good and fast, but also quiet on the cpu.

(1) 120mm fan blowing in on the bottom front of the case
(2) 80mm fans on top blowing out
(2) 80mm fans in the back blowing out
(1) 80mm fan in side blowing in at the mobo

all fans would have a front mount controller and be variable speed. i think that would be pretty badass.

ok, so for a P4 3.0C, what max load temp should I never go over?

Last question too, lets say I do get watercooling and my 3.0C is overclocked and running at 52C maxload with my air cooling setup. If I get a $250 watercooling setup and do everything right, about how many degrees would it bring that temp down to? I know that could be a difficult question, but any estimate will do.

Thanks!

hey also, is watercooling quiet? can i get a setup that would be silent?
