When making VGA cable, do H-Sync and V-sync need to be shielded?

I'm in the middle of trying to convert my xbox component video cable into a component + VGA cable. There's a good chance that I'll end up with a cable that doesn't do either but I'm willing to take that risk. I chopped the end off of an SVGA cord I had lying around and was planning on soldering that on but I came across a stumbling block. Red green and blue are all individually shielded but the other 8 wires (including H and V sync) are only shielded by a "common shielding" for the whole cord which I had to remove to get at the wires. Do they need shielding as well or is having Red, green and blue shielded enough? Also, the entire chunk of VGA cable I'm adding is less than 8", so does it even matter?

You want to shield anything that has any oscillation. Thus, shield the sync wires as well. From my experience at the lab, unshielded wires (even if short) showed lots of distortion on the oscilloscope.
